Looking for durable IEMs, price range $80-$200
For durability in the price range, I would recommend the Westone W1. I have beaten mine around for over a year and they have stood up very well. Most nights I go to sleep listening to them. I am sure they are yanked and pulled during the night. They are also extremely comfortable. The...- qc98

New Practical Devices XM6 Amp/DAC (The Complete Review)
I hate this place! OK, I loved my XM5. Bought the kits and tried various configurations - ended up wondering if I was really hearing the differences. Just knew I loved it. What was always clear was that the amp was great - being able to set a "sleep" mode was that tremendous extra that...- qc98

IEMs reshelled into Custom Molds $80 in the USA (TripleFi 10, SE530, etc.) from FISHER HEARING
I just got my remolds back today, and I am really impressed. Mine, too, were TF-10s. I chose a clear monitor, with their wire. The remolds were shipped by InEarZ in accordance with the schedule that was promised in advance. I got exactly what I ordered. There is no sign of any defect in what I...- qc98

I agree with Swanlee. The lack of the ability to read the ID tags and compile that information is frustrating. I love the sound but functionality is a challenge. This is one of those devices for which you must spend time trying to "fool" its systems. I have not only had to employ...- qc98

iPad to Support USB Audio Interfaces via Camera Connection Kit?
ccfoodog, your memory didn't fail you. Your recollection is correct. For someone with a negative experience, see http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/483404/ipad-to-support-usb-audio-interfaces-via-camera-connection-kit/225#post_6808384 On the other hand, shigzeo appears to have had the...- qc98

iPad to Support USB Audio Interfaces via Camera Connection Kit?
Let me enter the debate on the Headphonia DAC cable. It works fine for me - sound is full, great soundstage. Not thin at all. I have fed the signal to the line in on a Shadow, XM5 and D10, all with good results. As confirmed, a straight USB feed to the D10 also works very well. ...- qc98

iPad-Fi
I have used the Zagg product on my iPhone and iPods. It is finicky to put on, but very effective. Let me first address installation. It seems very difficult to get all the bubble out. However, the product appears to shrink as it "dries". The bubbles disappear. What you are left with is a very...- qc98

MicroSDHC for Sansa Clip+
I found that speed did matter with the Clip+ because of the time it takes for the Clip to update the library after anything is added or removed. I had a class 2 16 gb card and it took forever to update after I added something to the almost full card. Definitely try to move to a higher class...- qc98

de gustibus non est disputandum Taste is not to be disputed. Isnt' it funny that we are all prepared to cut everyone slack on each person's taste in music. However, taste in hardware is an entirely different thing! I never owned a Mac - have had PCs since the 80s. Have used a...- qc98

Movie Soundtracks
Wow, almost missed this thread! This is the music I listen to most. I also find that the "modern" soundtracks can really bring out the best in the equipment that seems to enthral us. I focus more on the composed soundtracks, as opposed to what I will call the compilations, i.e., the... -
Wetshaving
I wetshave too, but in a totally obnoxious modern fashion. I use a Panasonic electric that is designed to be used wet or dry. The wet shave is incredibly easy on the skin and the shave is closer than anything I have ever enjoyed. I do it at the end of a shower, when the whiskers are softest. ...- qc98

This LOD look good?
I agree with kunalraiker. I bought a Fuze LOD from the same supplier on EBay. It arrived very quickly, given the shipping distance and charges, but was defective. I got in touch with the supplier and a new LOD was promptly sent. Works like a charm, great quality.- qc98

I haven't checked to ensure I have the latest version of Rockbox on my Fuze, but my LOD does not work with Rockbox. I use the dual boot feature and simply boot to the native interface when I want to use the LOD.- qc98

Has this discussion moved into an area that belongs in another forum? For my part, I am very attracted to the s:flo2 sound. There is a fullnes and detail that I do not get with my Fuzes (both Rockboxed and not) and my clip+. The fact that I am willing to put up with its interface in...- qc98

MP3 Players With Sleep Function?
Many players have an explicit sleep function, such as the Sansa Clip+ and Fuze. The Samsung P3 has it. The iPhone 3gs has a sleep function available as part of the clock feature (I don't own a Touch but assume it would be there too). For each, the player shuts down after the set time, no...- qc98

Is my wife a member? No? Ok, then. I am bad with these, just like to try them out, and then never part with them. These all get listened to from time to time. Rio Karma Nano (not sure which gen) iRiver H-120 (2, in case one broke..) iRiver H-140 iRiver H-320 Sansa Clip...- qc98

Hippo Vb a nice surprise.
I, too, was pleasantly surprised by the hippo VB's, although not completely. A positive review on ABI had given me the incentive to give them a try. I agree with DG's description of the sound, and found the highs did soften somewhat after burn-in. These do not overtake my favourite W3s...- qc98

PA2V2 review
I bought my amp from Gary in 2004. In recent years, my son used it from time to time, but the power adapter became "misplaced". I couldn't find one online and wrote to Gary to see where one could be bought. Within hours, Gary wrote to say he would just send me one. And he did, immediately...- qc98

iPhone 3GS headphone Output Question
I too have Westone 3s and a 3gs with 32 gigs. While the headphone out isn't bad, it also isn't good. I ran a mini-mini from the headphone out and a LOD each to an XM5 amp, then to the W3s. The difference is very clear. The headphone out has a muddiness to the sound, across the spectrum. The LOD...- qc98
