I don't know if they're up to the amount of bass the Hippo's deliver as I've never heard the Hippo's but the Sennheiser IE8's have a healthy amount of bass.

Not trying to sell the SE530 but I never had a problem with the cable.  I also found the 530 to be more comfortable especially with the olive tips. Though the IE8 was also pretty comfortable.

Over the ears and down the front for me.  I find that if I have them down my back and I have a jacket on my ears/IEMs really get pulled. So I worry less about have them break with the cable going down the front.

I agree with almost everybody else here and let them listen to yours.  If that doesn't convince them then let them buy their SCs.  Believe it or not a headphone's sound is not as important to everyone else as it is to us.  Sometimes ignorance really is bliss!

I can't say if the differences is between the two are enough that you would want to get the Turbines or not, but I preferred the Pro Turbines.  I found them to be much better balanced overall which is what I prefer.  But if you prefer your music a little bassier than stick with the IE8s.

I'll throw in a vote for the Audio-Technica ESW9s.  You'll be able to find them for probably less than $200 used.  I've gone to customs but if I hadn't I'd still have my ESW9.    Quite close to a neutral sound with a little bump in the upper bass.  Gorgeous looking headphone with wood cups...

Are there distinguishable differences between a $300 and a $1200 amp?  For the most part, absolutely.    Whether those differences are worth the extra cost of admission is something only you as a buyer can decide.
