I had a similar moment, where I gave the nod to the Dan Clark Audio Ether for a bit more enjoyment, even if soundstage depth was a bit more shallow. Eventually, though, I decided that I would rather pay HD 800 prices, and I’ve been happy with my decision – especially since I have two amps I feel...

...or the Hifiman Arya. I got the Arya and it sounds great but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. Some very vocal people say the HD800s "ruined" what is great about the HD800. My used pair of HD800 had the SDR mod, I removed it. I must say I understand why people said the HD800...

Yeah, I’m with @PurpleAngel here. The G6 could be an all-in-one solution with DSP, DAC, and Amp in one box. However, it also offers the flexibility to just use the G6 as a DAC with line-out to connect your Schiit Magnius amp, or if you think the Modius DAC is better you could just use the G6 as...

For gaming, I would assume plugging the HD800, directly into the G6's headphone jack, would work fine. You also could connect the G6's line-output (1/8") to the line-input (RCA) on the Magnius. Have you tried connecting the PS5's USB port to the Modius USB port, just to see if the PS5 can work...

...use the G6 to passthrough audio INCLUDING tempest audio correct? So the chain would be PS5-> (USB) G6 -> (Optical - this is the cable i need) Modius -> Magnius -> HD800s. From what I can tell on bestbuy i cant get one locally unfortunately so i need to know a trusted brand i can find on amazon.

...up to 7.1. To me 7.1 seems to sound better? but its really hard to compare. Another question though...i decided to go ALL IN and order some hd800s, It seems like per previous conversations my main concern should be an AMP right? not some other 3d audio device? Atmos is pretty much the only...

...to me and I don’t have a price budget. I’m think I prefer earbuds for the Switch and full size headphones for the PS5 however I’m okay with full size for the Switch if that is the best route to go. Could I just stick with my HD800s for my PS? Would I be missing out on 3D Audio and other things?

Currently use Schiit Modius balanced out to Monoprice THX 887 balanced to either HE6se or HD800S, with Redscape (software on PC) for surround audio. Redscape is very good with surround audio like SXFi, but the ability to basically use it with whatever I want is what made me switch.

...a while someone can correct me if I am wrong.) Unless you need the additional inputs/microphone outputs, or use a console, the SXFi dongle, which is like $60 or something, has the same SXFi capabilities and honestly I hear no difference between the two, even with high quality cans like the...

Its too true that most of us don't have our original cans that broke us into the hobby. Although I have had my HD800s for gaming for a long long time now. Not sure anything will ever dethrone them but I'll keep an eye on your recommendations just in case. I am sure though a lot of people would...

My bad, I made it sound like I wanted your pair. I mean it's definitely rare for anyone to keep the headphones that started their journey, lol. I really meant, that I wish it was still sold today. Though it's a totally different Philips now. I would like to have a pair of X2HRs though. I...

I can agree, HD800S has been the best headphone I have used while FPS gaming. I have been using the PC38X with Fulla Schiit on PS5 recently, trying to get used to them to compare them with the Dunu SA6 with Topping E30/L30 and USB wireless ModMic that I usually use. Want to test to see if I can...

Just in case you wondered what the point of the USB Bluetooth dongle was… the X7 is not compatible with the PlayStation USB. However, the X7 is very, very versatile. Since it can play audio from multiple sources at once, what you do is use the Bluetooth for chat audio, the optical for game audio...

I'd put my Monolith M1570 up against the HD-800S anyday. @p1zzap1e Take a look at Kennerton's offerings, they have some excellent closed-backs. The Magni and Gjallahorns are graphene dynamic drivers, and the other models are planars.

Thats a huge spending range. If you don't mind spending the money, get an HD800S and call it a day. You will always be wondering what you're missing out on if you don't. If you don't feel the need to spend the money you can get great sounding headphones for a lot less that are great in games...

Hey guys what are the best headphones for gaming in the $500-1500 price range? Closed or open doesn't really matter. Is HD800/HD800s the endgame / holy grail for gaming? I am interested in semi-competitive FPS and mostly for the soundstage, positional accuracy and for 3D sound

Interesting. I actually love the Z1R for gaming and multimedia. I don't get the seashell effect at all in my setup. If you're willing to spend more cash, the Verite Closed is a pair that is surprisingly good at gaming. May not be the last word in detail (tho, more than enough for gaming), but...

...and unnaturally wide. The treble was still peaky enough to be fatiguing. The bass impact was nice though, something that is missing with my HD800S. I am thinking about purchasing the HD820, I am looking for a similar HD800S sound in a closed back with elevated bass. Wearing open back is...
