Head-Fi Vinyl lovers - Some help please
Hello fellow head-fiers, It's been quite a while since I posted; been lurking a while on hiatus. Anyway, I need some help and/or advice. My brother was recently helping clear out the estate of an older gentleman and came across a stack of Panasonic gear from (apparently, based on the CD input...- Zarathustra19

Post pic(s) of your latest "significant" purchase(s)!!! v2.0
Katadyn Hiker Water Filter This is significant in that it represents the most important addition to my hiking/survival kit to date. Before I got it, I had no way to purify water other than boiling and a small container of bleach. Thus, I can now take trips of longer duration or survive in a...- Zarathustra19

What headphones are you currently rocking?
Still burning in my SR-80i. To be completely honest, I'm not sure I've put in enough listening time on the K701 to completely burn it in since I got it three years ago. Curse you, 9 to 5!- Zarathustra19

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
Quote: Thanks very much! I'm thinking of carving some runes to spell out "music" on the trunk of the tree, in keeping with the norse theme and implying that music is a vital part of the tree of life. Corny, maybe, but I'm a corny sort of guy.- Zarathustra19

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
Three coats of polyurethane later, and the headphones are back where they belong, rather than on the dust cover of my turntable.- Zarathustra19

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
Just put the first coat of polyurethane on it, so headphones have to wait a little bit, lol. I'll post with them on it after the second and third coats are finished drying. Thanks for the interest in it!- Zarathustra19

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
My first, and so far only attempt at a stand. Extra pine planks in the garage, so I thought why not? Its meant to look like Yggdrasil, the tree of life in Norse mythology. Best I could do with a jigsaw, a pocket knife and a drill. It could use a few coats of poly, though.- Zarathustra19

The "Lo-Fi" Appreciation Thread.
Lo-fi is sort of the point of the original black metal scene (i.e. Gorgoroth recording through a pair of headphones into an 8-track recorder), so I appreciate the aesthetics behind a lot of it. Same goes for "In an Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. It wouldn't be the same album if...- Zarathustra19

Jazz Recommendations from this Century
I hate to intrude on the "raw" and "hard" of your jazz, but I have to recommend Tord Gustavsen Trio. Its soft, but passionate and expressive throughout all of their albums. Cheers.- Zarathustra19

Best place to buy classical music CDs cheaply?
+1 Local library. Also check with school libraries (high school is hit or miss, but college has an awesome selection if they have a decent library). Otherwise, check into local record stores who take in used CD's. Even FYE in the mall has a (somewhat) decent selection of used disks at...- Zarathustra19

Grado Fan Club!
Way late into this thread, since I've been on since '06, but I just got my first pair of Grado's (SR-80) and I'm in love. I've only had them for a few weeks, but even with the limited burn in time, I'm enamored with the crispness of these cans. Grado fan in progress. Cheers.- Zarathustra19

AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition
As my reference cans are currently the original K701, I think I'm all set without the slight upgrades. Having said that, this edition does look sweet, just not THAT sweet. -Cheers- Zarathustra19

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II
I worked at Circuit City before it closed. We had a surprisingly decent selection of headphones (including Shure and Senneheiser). I worked with a guy who was very much impressed with Bose QC 3's and was always recommending them to customers. I took him aside one day and commenced with my...- Zarathustra19
