Sennheiser Amperiors?
Quote: I like that they sound great and are comfortable. Bass impact is satisfying. I find anything else in terms of, what I consider, flowery descriptions to be unnecessary.- raccoon

Sennheiser Amperiors?
I got these headphones yesterday. Here's my review: I like them. Thanks, Tyll! Styling isn't the greatest so my hunt hasn't ended for on-the-go music, but for now they're great. All the wires sticking out everywhere looks a bit odd.- raccoon

Emotiva XDA-1 24/192 Balanced DAC/Digital Preamp for $250 (clearance)
I use this DAC using optical from my Mac and couldn't be happier. As for the size of the thing it's actually smaller than my amp, both width and depth, so it fits in nicely. Price is down to $200 as well on Emotiva's site.- raccoon

I'm tempted to just buy a pair of DT1350s. I got a flight in a few weeks! But after Tyll's comparison I guess it's worth the wait...- raccoon

My local Apple Store in Bellevue didn't carry any Sennheiser headphones at all. I asked them to check the back as well.- raccoon

Sony MDR-ZX700 vs MDR-Z1000 - Early Impressions...
Well, I just ordered the ZX700. I should have these wrapped around my massive head by Wednesday :) I'm hoping I don't love them too much though 'cause that'll mean I'll also eventually buy the Z1000. My main use case is portable use which is why I went for the low end model.- raccoon

Sony MDR-ZX700 vs MDR-Z1000 - Early Impressions...
Quote: I'm interested in your opinion. I recently purchased the Skullcandy Aviators for on-the-go purposes, but they're actually way too small for my massive head, so I'm looking for a new portable. How's the isolation of the Z1000? I see in your sig you still say you use the...- raccoon

Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)
I talked with Dimitri, who is very responsive, about the EX1000. The cost of a brand new pair would be $600, a $100 premium for the Japanese model - essentially $100 for the short cable. His open box/display model is $500 which is reasonable. I just can't justify it though. Seems the...- raccoon

Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)
I am definitely interested in picking up a pair, but I notice the sony US version does not include the short cable. I also don't see it listed on Music Acoustics. Oh well, I wanted to wait a few more months before buying another pair of earphones anyways.- raccoon

JVC FX700-like CLOSED earphones?
My favourite earphones, the JVC FX700, have been lost to sticky fingers. I'd like to buy another pair, but I'm wondering if I can get similar sound to the FX-700s but with better isolation? I love the bass and soundstage of the FX700, but maybe you can only get that type of sound with an open...- raccoon

Pico Slim first impressions and reviews thread. See p31 onwards for a couple of solid reviews + pics + useful info.
I used it at work for the majority of the day. The amount of control you have over the volume is very impressive. I don't feel like I have to crank up the volume either to get a full sound since even at very low levels this amp sounds great. Definitely dead silent as well at the volumes I listen to.- raccoon

Pico Slim first impressions and reviews thread. See p31 onwards for a couple of solid reviews + pics + useful info.
Mine just arrived today. It's a lot smaller than I expected. It makes my iPhone look massive. The volume control is very precise and there's no hiss even during quiet piano passages which is exactly what I was looking for. And I'm glad I went with silver- raccoon

My FX700s arrived. I'm what you'd consider an FX500 fanboy. I love the deep, rich bass and soundstage. Never had a problem with the treble, probably due to my listening levels (one notch on an iPhone 3GS). After comparing the FX500 from an FX700 straight out of the box, there is no...- raccoon

REVIEW: B&W (Bowers & Wilkins) P5 Headphones
Excellent review, Skylab. I probably listened to it for about 30 minutes before I decided to return them and that was after a 50 hour burn-in. The intense clamping they do made them impossible for me to wear. Regarding the sound, I found it very hard to focus on the music, almost as if I didn't...- raccoon

After about two straight days of burning these in, they do sound better. It's hard to appreciate the improvements, however, since the constant clamping on my ears is distracting. It's a shame because I really like the build quality, but I'll be returning them.- raccoon

I gotta say, I agree about the comfort issue. Maybe I'm spoiled with the HD800, but I find the P5s clamp down a little too hard. Maybe my head is too big heh. They are a lot smaller than I expected and I have them completely extended. I'm not impressed with the bass at all. I'm not good at...- raccoon
