Review by 'headphonatic' on item 'Stax SR-009 Electrostatic Headphones'
When the Stax SR-009 first came out, there wasn't anything on the market really capable of matching its resolution and clarity. Give or take 7 years later, there still isn't really anything on the market that can match the detailed, transparent sonic image only electrostats can provide In terms...- headphonatic

Win a SUSVARA
I would bring it to meets all across California, and I would review the hell out of them, and I would try them with hundreds of different amps and dacs, I would show them to all my friends, my parents, my friend's parents, my parent's friends. I would get so much mileage out of this headphone...- headphonatic

Berkeley Audiophiles?
Just wondering if there were any audiophiles in Berkeley? Maybe we can arrange a small meet up; I would love to see your set ups. Points if you're affiliated with UCB, it would make for a great ice breaker. I know finals are fast approaching, but I wouldn't mind setting up something for summer.- headphonatic

Schiit Ragnarok Amplifier
Maybe the people who have it are busy listening to it... Personally, I think its the most boring archetype of an amp (high end solid state/one size fits all, low end ss generates more hype), also many people believe there are better option for cheaper (newer tube amps, rolling for days). Not a...- headphonatic

The 5000 USD Challenge
Are there any local audio stores? if not just order a bunch of crap off Amazon and if you dont like it play around with it or return it. Personally I'd try to find a used Stay SR-009 on the classifieds and a used kgsshv. Also there's a reccomendations section but I've never seen a request as...- headphonatic

Black Widow for HD800?
The main problem I have with the Rag is that it has a bit of a hollow sound with the HD800's, while I admit it's a great amp, it just sounds slight hollow and a bit pressed (like the sound is pressed against me). I loved the 800s with the wa7 fireflies. Im just wondering if the black widow will...- headphonatic

Black Widow for HD800?
Not sure if I should stick with the Ragnarok for my HD800's or move to the EC Black Widow. Either way, I've heard there are better options than the Ragnarok for the 800s. Would anyone whose tried either please give me suggestions- headphonatic

one of the most resplving headphones ever. felt like a punchier more focused he1000. the sound was a bit narrow however, and a good bit aggressive but the still the most fun sounding ive ever heard.- headphonatic

Schiit Ragnarok Amplifier
Just some thoughts I have after having my Rag for a couple days It amazes me how much the Ragnarok's dynamics and power dominate my system. I always thought sound quality changed most with swapping headphones but the Rag seems to overtake everything. Any idea how it's amping capabilities...- headphonatic

Any Tigers in Town? (Baton Rouge/New Orleans)
Anyone interested in a mini-meet in BR or NO? I'm good friends with an LSU professor who could probably hook me up with a room in the University, and I know that there are several audiophiles at LSU, especially in the acoustics/physics department. Depending on the consensus, we could hold the...- headphonatic

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
The HE-500's have a bit of ringing/distortion in the mid range, as you can see here, http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/HiFiMANHE500.pdf It makes them sound thick yet distant, that might be your problem. The HE-500 also dips a bit at 5K, causing it lose a bit of detail or presence on vocals- headphonatic

Is the Hifiman HE-6 clearly a league above the Hifiman HE-500?
Are you sure you're not using a powerful enough amp? The He-6's need a lot of power to reach their full potential. The mini-x might not that kind of power. Just kidding, add that to the list of things not to say on this thread. The He-6's are great dynamic fun, just a bit too bright for my...- headphonatic

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
I didn't like the bass of the HE-6, I thought it sounded somewhat artificial. It has great speed, but was a little lacking in balance. I can understand why people love the HE-6's ultra clarity, but to my ears the sound was much too aggressive. Though fun to listen to, I could feel the treble...- headphonatic

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
The LCD-3's, any day of all eternity. Audeze house sound really is something else. The bass extension on the LCD's is so low, it encompasses the entirety of the sound like none other.- headphonatic
