Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread
Thanks all for the advice. I'll check out the Meze and Susvara sugestions. Also... I've thought about this, but aren't they rarer than hen's teeth? I guess if someone here wants to sell your set, give me a shout in DM (and I'll also keep an eye out in the Classifieds). I won't hold my...- Holy Zoo

Oppo PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphone Impressions Thread
This might be sort of off-topic(ish), but I’m thinking folks who follow this thread are the best folks to ask: I bought my PM-1’s 7 years ago after a very long (and expensive) search through the world of high-end headphones. The PM-1’s sound signature is just right for my ears. I knew that I...- Holy Zoo

Size Matters - Earpad hole measurements for Over-ear Headphones....
All, I've taken the liberty of adding all these measurements (plus my own) to a spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gXPtdjE2YXnJ-DlhP7_Q07xbD38akd5rRar4QttfeWE/edit?usp=sharing I will continue to update the spreadsheet as more measurements come in. Hope...- Holy Zoo

Headphones ~ $300 Classical/Instrumental Music
Just out of curiosity - is music like the above (orchestral soundtrack music from big budget action movies) considered "classical"? I've noticed that a lot of the time it tends to be mastered much edgier (more forward, compressed, and eq'd to be unnaturally "exciting") than traditional...- Holy Zoo

Ultrasone Earpad mod
Hiya, I tried searching, but couldn't quite find a definitive answer... The pleather on the earpads of my 6 month old DJ1's are already hard and starting to crack. Sigh. Time to investigate velour or leather. Does anyone know if any of the velour earpads here will fit the DJ1...- Holy Zoo

Howdy all, I need help. I've searched and read the archives (rinse, repeat) and can't quite find what I'm looking for. I'm wondering what the great Head-Fi gurus recommend. I'm probably being way too picky, but here's my Wish List: 1. Low impedance (Source is a MacBook Pro, no amp - I...- Holy Zoo

Is DCC Compact Classics still in Business?
There's also a new Steve Hoffman information website that I've helped to put together (as most of you know, Steve is the mastering engineer behind all the DCC gold releases), with a fairly complete discography of what he's worked on (at DCC and elsewhere). I've found that almost everything... -
HD600 - what's the break-in period?
I've figured it out! The difference was in the ear cushions. Specifically, the new HD600's cushions are still stiff and protrude more (as compared to my 545's cushions, which are copletely broken in and soft... less stiff, and sort of flatter as a result) therefor moving the speakers...- Holy Zoo

They murdered Brian Wilson!
I really love the Steve Hoffman remastered "Endless Summer" on DCC Compact Classics. Warm and smooth. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...174672-6160606 Hmmm.. looks like they're out of stock. I think you can get it at their website though. http://www.dcccompactclassics.com/ -

HD600 - what's the break-in period?
...really warm and relaxed. Can I expect this from my HD600s? Or are they more likely to remain more clinical sounding their whole life? BTW, the *fit* of the HD600's are AMAZING. They feel soooo right. Just the right pressure (where the 545's have always felt loose and sloppy). The HD600's...- Holy Zoo

Headwize (not a happy post)
I wasn't around on the old headwize forums, but I can say this: running vbulletin (which is php/mysql based) *chews* up cpu time. I run a forum elsewhere which was using ubb. I switched to vbulletin about 3 months ago because of vbulletins sexy interface and features. But unfortunatly, after...- Holy Zoo

Audio Advisor go "poof"??
I just read on usenet (rec.audio.opinion -- a nasty, nasty newsgroup, by the way) that Audio Advisor just went out of business. Anyone hear anything about this? I just tried the website, and nothing came up. www.audioadvisor.com- Holy Zoo

Ordered a bunch of used SACD's
Thanks Jude! I just ordered a Szell sacd over the weekend... (Rossini, Auber, Berlioz). I'll let you know how it sounds. Oh - and I hear ya about older recordings. I grew up listening to my dad's classical and jazz (mostly big band) LP collection, and there's nothing like those early...
