QUAD ERA-1 Thread
Finally hooked the Quads up to a proper amp (Marantz 2240B) and put them through their paces. Couple of thoughts and playlist below. I have eclectic tastes as you will see, so I really wanted to see how these would do with some of my favorite tracks from different genres. Fast, accurate...- Navybsn

Think I solved my comfort issues. I had a leftover pad for an old set of Audeze I no longer have. A few mods and boom. Much better. These are a keeper now and I'm so glad. I would have sorely missed the sound.- Navybsn

QUAD ERA-1 Thread
Anyone have tips to make these a little more comfortable? The headband puts too much pressure on my head which keeps me from enjoying them for very long. I was thinking about an extra pad, but not sure if it would help.- Navybsn

If I could wear them more comfortably, I would keep them. The headband puts too much pressure on my head. Any tips? I thought about one of those padded headband things, but not sure if it would improve.- Navybsn

Nice set of planar magnetic open back cans. Comes with 2 cables (XLR and 3.5mm) and 3 sets of pads (leather, leather/velour, and perferated leather). Wonderful open sound, fast, tight bass, and easily driven from a portable device. A better all around sound than the LCD-2. Comfortable for long...- Navybsn

Maybe look into some sort of penetrating oil that is safe for plastics. Sewing machine oil comes to mind. Surely there is something else out there. Hinges like all things mechanical that moves requires lubrication at some point. I've not noticed any creaking with my set. I do find the headband...- Navybsn

QUAD ERA-1 Thread
Just picked up a pair of Quads from the classifieds here. Really excited to get them. I've read most of the thread and watched a few reviews, and they seem to be exactly what I am after sound wise. Anyway, now I'm looking for amp suggestions. The only thing I have right now other than my phone...- Navybsn

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
I listen to everything from raw black metal, symphonic black, experimental/psychedelic black, OSDM, prog metal, traditional hm, and everything in between. I think that the poorly recorded stuff is much better on forgiving cans like the Meze 99's.- Navybsn

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
Just bought a pair of Quads off the classifieds. Now to figure out amplification. I know they are easy to drive. I have my phone (S10+) and my Marantz 2240b at home. Any suggestions on a reasonably priced amp for these? Source will be a raspberry pi/picoreplayer server, so RCA or optical input...- Navybsn

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
I find the 99's to be excellent. A little dark sure, but the do sound great with most any type of metal. It's the primary reason I bought them several years ago (same for the Periodic Be's). I'm mainly looking for open cans for a different sound signature and some variation. They have to work...- Navybsn

Sounds like they would be right up my alley. As much as I like metal, if the gear doesn't pass the Rush test, it won't be around long.- Navybsn

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
I'm looking for a new set of open cans. Primary listening is metal, but I do throw in a good bit of other genres as well (post-punk, folk, prog, classic rock, jazz). Most of the metal I listen to leans hard to the black side of the spectrum though I do enjoy most flavors save for tech death and...- Navybsn

Shuoer impressions thread
Just got the set of Tapes I ordered on Black Friday. Other gear I have for comparison are Periodic Be's and Meze 99 Classics. All 3 run straight from my S10+. First impression is very good. Might even prefer these over the others, but I haven't a-b-c compared them directly. Damn solid iem for a...- Navybsn

Meze RAI Solo -- Wire Free UPM Dynamic Driver with Metal Injection Sintered Steel Body
Has anyone compared them to the Periodic Be? That's my other contender. They're supposedly the top choice in the price range for metal, but they do lack in build material quality and detachable cables.- Navybsn

Meze RAI Solo -- Wire Free UPM Dynamic Driver with Metal Injection Sintered Steel Body
Question for the group. I don't post much, so forgive me if this isn't the right place. I've been waiting for the Rai Solo since it was first rumored. I daily drive the 99 Classics and really dig them. I listen mainly to metal (mostly raw black metal and death metal, but a little of everything...- Navybsn

I just picked up a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 for $160 from the classified forum. There were several other sets on there for a similar price. I did add a set of Brainwavz pads, so another $25, but you may not find them necessary. Sound pretty decent with my iPhone 6 Plus. They have handled... -

SelbiMusic Alchemist The Burden is Mine.....Alone is my personal favorite by GC. The Acoustic Verses would be a close second though. New music from them would be outstanding. I wonder if the new In the Woods album inspired/provoked/made possible the potential of a new GC album. -

markm1 Agreed. There were just so many incredible releases this year I haven't been able to listen to many of them more than once or twice. I tried to concentrate on my favorite sub genres (OSDM, BM, Tech DM) and missed a lot of great albums in others. 2016 was truly a banner year for metal like...
