Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Ok, well like I said I was just pulling at straws trying to guess why some of my music sounded harsh, while other music sounded beautiful. The thing about drum&bass music is that it is often nothing but a very expressive bassline some hint of a mid-range melody in places (whatever part of the...- N0BOX

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Out of curiosity, what kind of music do you listen to? I've mentioned before that my experience with the Noble 3U was a tad bit shrill when I first started using it and I eventually either got used to it, it somehow toned itself down, or my use of EQ fixed the problem for me (honestly not sure...- N0BOX

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Ahh, sorry. I hadn't gotten that feel from the thread (that it was for "new stuff"). I had just assumed that all the comments on new offerings were just the trend "because they are new". I wish there was a way to get my hands on an M3 to try it out. I was seriously considering getting it...- N0BOX

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
Haha, that's how I've been all day long. FedEx told me that I'd get my order by "8pm" and while FedEx normally drops packages off between 10am and 2pm, they didn't show up today until 7pm. Even worse, I had seen them making a delivery a few houses down the street at around noon, and they just...- N0BOX

Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!
For those of you who've been Wizard fans for longer than I, and who have had a chance to sample many of his products, I have a question: I am very much a basshead, but also a closet audiophile. I have a pair of HD 650s and have had some experience pulling the trigger on lackluster "cheap"...- N0BOX

R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby
The A&K SR15 uses the same pair of DAC chips as the R5, and also has a "Quad-Core CPU" (though, I can't find anywhere that actually lists the actual SoC model... the Snapdragon 425 used by the Hiby R5 is a quad-core ARM Cortex A53@1.4GHz), so it may be possible for Hiby to bring MQA to the R5...- N0BOX

Sony NW-A40 Series NW-A45/A46/A47
I don't mean that it would degrade the battery, just that playing Hi-Res files uses more power than regular CD-quality files do. So, say you were only playing CD-quality files up until two week ago and you were getting 4 days of playback on a charge, then you switched to Hi-Res files. You...- N0BOX

Other than possible battery problems, there is also how "hard" you are working the player. Have you loaded any hi-res music that is of a higher sample or bit rate, like 24/192k or 24/96k when you normally play 16/48k? Is a lot of your music in AAC or MP3 format, but you recently started...- N0BOX

Ahh, thanks! I'll try that out, then. Right now my music is all in the "media" folder because I also load videos on the card from time to time. I'll just rename the folder and I should be set :)- N0BOX

Heh, I guess I'm like one other person posting here: I bought the A45 at Crutchfield and popped in here to see if there was anything else that was interesting to learn about it after charging it, loading it up with some music, and tweaking the settings to get it sounding just right... only to...- N0BOX

That's just Massdrop. Theoretically, if you are able to be patient, you should get a great deal in trade for a long wait. Sadly, many drops are only a couple dollars cheaper than the same product on amazon after taking shipping into account. Also, Massdrop is only ever really able to offer a...- N0BOX

Fostex T-X0 Massdrop edition
Sadly, no one knows at this point. Theoretically, they have tuned the sound to the preferences of the Massdrop community, whatever that means. I am in for a pair, though. I have been wanting to get a pair of headphones with a more 'fun', bassy sound signature than my HD 650s, and I had been...- N0BOX

We would probably need more info to make any good suggestions: Do you plan yo use an external DAC? Do you want to use a headphone amp (this can often be included as part of the external DAC, but not all DACs have the amp)? What kind of music will you be listening to, and do you prefer the music...- N0BOX

...so a 16bit 44.1kHz file is storing 16 bits of data (that's two bytes) 44,100 times every second. That means a 4 minute long song takes 44,100 * 2 * 60 * 4 = 21,168,000 bytes = 20.2MB worth of hard drive space. When you go HiFi and get a file that is 24/96k, that same 4 minute song balloons up...- N0BOX

Kickstarter Headphone - Grain Audio, any thoughts?
Yeah, I've heard that about AKG "in general." They seem to advertise the K7XX and K553 and having a more pronounced low end than their other headphones: Quote: So, yeah. I'm not looking for Beats bass, just something more than my HD 650s without throwing all the detail into the...- N0BOX

Virtual surround is usually a function of the DAC, or more specifically a function of the driver software that controls the DAC. Most virtual surround is "rendered" on the PC in software, then it is just played through the DAC into any pair of stereo headphones. The Sound Blaster E5 and...- N0BOX

...as far as I am concerned, but I am guilty of boosting the low end with EQ because both are lacking in the low end, otherwise (at least to my taste).* * - While they lack the QUANTITY of low end I desire, they are capable of generating lows that go AMAZINGLY deep. Best Smartphone for audiophile
The phone doesn't usually bother me in my pocket, and I've gotten used to it for most things in hand. It is a bit too heavy for my workout shorts, but since it is my primary DAP I just put up with it. There is a one-handed mode that you can enter by swiping a finger across the on-screen...- N0BOX

Howdy Andrés, I actually got sucked into high-end audio thanks to my gaming PC. I wanted a 3D surround setup for gaming, and I saw a review that said "don't pay a bunch of money for a bunch of cheap drivers (like the Razer Kraken 7.1, which has 5 drivers per ear to approximate a 7.1ch speaker...- N0BOX
