what about Los Angeles?
Sunny’s Home Theater & Music Systems in Covina always seems to be hosting events. Second to the last time I was there, Dynaudio, Straight Wire and Wilson were present. The last time I dropped by, the LAOC Audiophile Society was holding an event.- adamlau

Best DAC you've heard
MSB Diamond Platinum IV + FemtoSecond Galaxy Clock. Soundstage and instrument separation were its hallmarks. But then again, I knew the price the owner paid for the system. A severe case of psycho acoustics was certainly at play during the audition. Regardless, the Diamond Platinum IV...- adamlau

Which USB DAC option is best for audio from a PC?
Proper gain staging dictates that volume should be controlled by the last component in the chain. This is not the case with the your intended usage of the Twin6 Be as they are meant to be used in conjunction with a mixer. There are only two input sensitivity selections available with the...- adamlau

BLIND TEST: Lossless vs. MP3 320 vs. Vorbis (q=10)
Nobody else? Certainly more difficult than BLIND TEST: Lossless vs. MP3 320 owing to the fact that the sample was selected from a more conventionally mastered release as opposed to the more dynamic DCC and unlimited HDtracks versions.- adamlau

BLIND TEST: Lossless vs. MP3 320
Exactly. If anything, consider it a contest between you and your own system. The sample was pulled from what is widely considered the best mastered and thusly, the best digital version of the song. So sit back and enjoy :) .- adamlau

Difference between Anologue and digital sound?
Depends on the definition of good mastering. In the case of past and present pop, good as in replayable with consistency across general consumer devices (limited and denoised), or good as in a dynamic flat transfer from well-preserved tapes (in the case of analog recordings) with only a...- adamlau

[link] 24/192 Music Downloads ...and why they make no sense
Correct. That is how 24-bit media is handled for CMI8788 cards (Xonar ST/STX) under OSS4 and ALSA: 24-bit samples are required to be aligned in 32-bit words in memory. That statement represents my personal golden rule of source improvement: It's all in the mastering. Seeking the best...- adamlau

M-DAC vs. MH 25.3 vs. W4S DAC-2?
A transient look at differences in feature sets and comparative sound quality (less phono output) is what this versus was meant to achieve. You get what you pay for? It depends. Here I recommend the MH 25.3 as a workaround for additional attack and sparkle (at the expense of fatigue)...- adamlau

New DAC for Rotel Dynaudio system
Or a DAC with a a shade brightness up top to add a bit of pseudo-extension. I auditioned the Excite X12 several months ago and listen to the Focus 110 on a monthly basis. At the time, I found the X12 was not quite as smooth in the midrange as the 110 and not quite as forgiving with poorly...- adamlau

Affordable DAC with variable analog line output
Nice list. However, the line outputs for the DacMagic Plus and the NFB-10SE are variable in the digital (versus analog) domain.- adamlau

Which USB DAC option is best for audio from a PC?
$1100 for a DAC? Audiolab M-DAC, or a Benchmark DAC1 (if remote control operation is not on your list of desired features). Both offer preamp volume control. I have heard both extensively and no, they do not sound the same despite claims to the contrary. $3300 for a pair of active speakers? As...- adamlau

Thoughts and opinions on data based high end interfaces? (and implications for the meet-going crowd)
Time for a Mac. Trust me, I had been anti-Mac for the longest time (anti-Windows for even longer). I am still anti-Mac for use as a general desktop (and will always remain anti-Windows), but there is no denying that Amarra + iTunes is a winner in both usability, functionality and overall sound...- adamlau

M-DAC vs. MH 25.3 vs. W4S DAC-2?
New case tooling showcasing a new exterior design is about all the information I have been privy to. The current lineup will remain as base models (current list prices will remain unaffected) with the new series serving as their standard reference models.- adamlau

Never mind 2.0 or 2.1. How about a 2.2 sound system?
Nearly all subs marketed for home theater are active. XLR and shelving filters are not the only differences between active and passive monitors, of course. Factory matched drivers, crossovers and aligned impedences can be considered additional benefits for some active monitors. I am not unaware...- adamlau

Never mind 2.0 or 2.1. How about a 2.2 sound system?
Outside of native XLR connection options and shelving filters and unless you are priced in the range of Opals, PMC/Bryston, or the the higher end ADAM SX line with ICEpower ASP amps, it is difficult to make a blanket statement indicating the superiority of studio monitors over those marketed for...- adamlau

M-DAC vs. MH 25.3 vs. W4S DAC-2?
I might wait it out, else you may never know what you might have missed out on. I was considering one of the upcoming Shiit balanced products as well, but the lack of an impending volume control was the deciding factor against the allocation of resources towards one. I would much rather stage my...- adamlau
