New LISST really is same as the old LISST in a different can. (Same Schiit, different can...yeah, I know, keep the day job.) I'm working on a new chapter, this one maybe in multiple parts, about engineering decisions...which culminates in something you can do DIY if you're interested.

I've experimented with two different flavors of LISST in the past--one is fairly simple, a nice depletion MOSFET and associated protection/gain-setting stuff in a can, the other more complex, and intended to have a transfer function more similar to a triode. The latter also requires DC heaters...

And to confirm, you can use LISST in Vali 2. It has slightly less gain (about 4 in high gain), but otherwise it works fine.

If you're interested, I'll definitely get you some new LISST out before we start shipping so you can compare. They are a bit different.

...old Lyr 3 required this, otherwise gain switching would be a big problem. The Lyr+ monitors operational parameters and only connects when everything is OK. That said, Lyr 3 is no slouch! We'll have LISST available for purchase individually soon. Give us a couple of weeks to ramp up production.

We never tested them in other applications. They may work, they may not. Past LISST should be safe to try in other stuff, as long as the plate voltage isn't over about 450V. However, "should be" and "is" are two very different statements, and if they go poof, please don't blame me.

Short answer: 2nd gen LISST was going to be different, but ended up being the same. Sometimes my great ideas ain't so great. Ah, but I should also specify: electrically the same. The case will be different, with a phenolic base and rounded top, rather than the older squarish version. However...

That's what I'd do. Also if you're using a single input, swap inputs L and R to see if it's on the input side. If it follows the input swap, the problem isn't the amp. Mjolnir 2 has shared tube power supplies except heaters...are both tubes lighting up? That's another thing to check.
