Well, I have the Shure E500 and 3rd, 2nd, & 1st gen nano's and I'm happy. (I can't imagine the Touch being any different sound-wise.) I don't think the E500 show more hiss than Etymotics, it's just that they are MUCH more sensitive (louder) in general. Adjusted to the same volume level, I think...

I just disconnected the cables from my Sennheiser HD 580 and my Sennheiser HD 600, and weighed them on a postal scale. HD 580 = 9.25 oz HD 600 = 9.75 oz

IMHO, "burn in" is 99% psychological.

iPod and iTunes here too. One thing that's really impressive is that, unlike the Rio Volt, the iPod has an ultra low noise floor, even when cranked all the way; you can really tell when listening to a clean, quiet aif or wav. With an mp3 that soft whine in the iPod's mp3 decoder spoils it...
