Learning how driver setups can affect sound quality

No problem! I've been wanting to make a post about driver types for a while now, and this was the perfect opportunity! As for your questions, I believe the reason for their high use in IEMS is mostly due to size and efficiency. They can cover a lot of different frequencies if you have enough...

Learning how driver setups can affect sound quality

Alright! Finally something up my alley! So, the likely reason for this trend in your research is due to the limitations behind driver tech, particularly BA drivers. BA drivers are pretty old tech, and were used a lot back in the old old days of headphones and speakers, but they had some serious...

    Headphone balance

From what I can remember, Focal's house sound is considered to be pretty versatile, especially the older version of the Clear, before it was replaced by the MG. You might also want to take a look at the Sennheiser HD58x Jubilee, which uses a pretty standard HD600 series build (open backs, good...

Sennheiser HD280 PRO VS Sony MDR-7506

7506 are indeed reliable headphones. Do keep in mind that they aren't the best for portable use due to very long and heavy coiled cable.

Looking for CD Player Recommendations ($200 Budget)

Sure! I ordered it on black friday because of a sale, but the player still hasn't started shipping. The website (Shenzen Audio) said that they weren't sure when they could start getting units out, so I'm looking for alternatives. It wasn't an issue with a player arriving broken if that's what...

    Surround sound and headphones

There are a few ways to approach this one, with varying levels of cost and effectiveness. In terms of sources, several companies have made "surround sound" dongles in the past, ranging from tech designed for gaming to stuff made to supposedly imitate vacuum tubes. I used to have a list of the...

Looking for CD Player Recommendations ($200 Budget)

Hello all, Currently looking for a CD player to use in my desk setup (Schiit Valhalla 2, Sennheiser HD300 Pro). I was planning on getting a Moondrop Discdream but had to refund it due to a production issue. I'm more interested in quality than aesthetics, but a smaller player with some glass to...

ELI5, how does an amplifier influence sound?

Most of the time, your sound is going to change much more by switching out your headphones when compared to a DAC/AMP, but if you get an amp that has been designed with reflavoring in mind, (like a tube amp), there will be differences.

Are Koss and Grado the only manufacturers of on-ear open-back headphones?

No other huge brands at the very least. While some manufacturers (like Audio-Technica) make ear-clips, the open-back supra-aural market is pretty much Koss' domain.

    Looking for Closed-back with

Yeah they don't have a super good reputation. Did a bit more webcrawling on UK amazon and found a few more things you might want to take a look at. All of these are closed-backs with circular housings. I'll try and list the potential issues with them, but I'd recommend doing some more research...

hifiman he400se or the philips shp9500

Going purely off of measurements, the SHP9500 is more mid forward, but just barely. I'd say overall the Hifimans are more resolving, but that still has to be put through the lens of them being harder to drive and heavier.

    Looking for Closed-back with

Haven't really navigated into this area just yet but I'll try and give a few pointers. One of AKG's older closed-backs, the K553 MKII, uses large, circular earcups. Beyerdynamic released a 16 ohm version of the DT770 to guitar center awhile back, called the DT770i. It should be easier to...

hifiman he400se or the philips shp9500

Coming from the perspective of someone who owns a 9500 and a 400S (Not the same as the 400SE but pretty darn close), I'd say: -About the same in terms of space. -The SHP9500 is flatter. -Comfort is kinda variable here. The SHP9500s are lighter and feel less present (if that makes any sense)...

What Obscure Headphones Have You Found Online?

Neat! It kinda reminds me of a Hifiman but with a Beyer-style band. Wish the more obscure planar companies had lower prices, but I guess they don't get enough money as is.

What Obscure Headphones Have You Found Online?

When it comes to the rabbit hole that is Hifi, there are a lot of products that don't really show up on the surface too often. Every once in a while, while I'm looking through these forums or just doing a basic Google image search, I'll see a pair of hifi cans that have gone relatively unnoticed...
