Sony NW-A50 Series
Thanks, this confirms my fear and suspicion and also the design flaw that Sony 'support' cannot treat seriously. What player does not have this database issue? No need for wifi or bluetooth. No need for multicore android. Should accept 1TB cards and play 20+ hours....- udo

2 minutes 48 seconds and 48 hundredths? How large was the card if any? Mine is being returned. Which player (Sony too) does not have this database issue nor a slow startup?- udo

Not Sony NW-A.. but...
The NW-A55L is packed and will be sent back out tomorrow. What player (even Sony) does not have the database issue, starts up quickly and plays all highres audio formats? I do not need wifi nor NFC. (will need to be able to disable them if present) Sub €500 price range. Should handle exfat and...- udo

Sony NW-A50 Series
The DAP creates a 'database' each time it is powered up. This takes time and slows down acces to the tunes. It is a stupid design as indexing a database should only happen after USB connection or when the user deletes something and then only on request. I will test the delay once my TB card has...- udo

Sony NW-A50 Series
See https://www.sony.co.th/en/electronics/support/digital-music-players-nw-nwz-a-series/nw-a55/specifications They write: Micro SD Micro SDHC Micro SDXC (without limits). Also the card thingie is poorly documented and not easy to exchange. Else it would be less of an issue. Altternative players...- udo

Sony NW-A50 Series
Since Sony `support` is worthless we cannot expect a fix for the database issue and that means I will return the A55L. I might make a video of the A55L databasing a 1TB microsdxc card to show the incompetence in designing and programming the device. Or did somebody find a workaround?- udo

The Sony 40th Anniversary Walkman Thread
Now see this 40th anniversary walkman and compare to the modern 'walkman' with hires playback and such. See the speed of the old one, see the `database creation` each time you power on the modern one. Why didn't them Sony people notice this? I will return the A55L for this.- udo

Not Sony NW-A.. but...
Hello, What portable highres player plays all the formats and supports 1TB microSDXC card? Should also be affordable and not have the Sony 'database' issue: i.e. be quick on powerup and interface. Please post...!- udo

New model Cowon - Plenue D2
Interesting device but why is the SD-card storage so limited? Internal flash is not necessary, I want to use a 1TB microSD card because swapping them is awkward. Which player can this if the Plenue D2 won't do this? (please do not mention Sony as they are clumsy in their support and design of...- udo

Switching S/PDIF on COAX
Well, here's some feedback... I got me such a BNC->4*BNC switchbox and connected the CD, the DVD and the Squeezebox to the Zhaolu D3.5 w/ SS3601s. At 192 Khz audio still sounds fine! I.e.: the cable goes from Squeezebox -> cinch-to-BNC-adapter -> BNC-BNC cable -> switchbox -> BNC-BNC cable ->...- udo

Switching S/PDIF on COAX
Because we can. There's several recordings here that sound great in 192/24. These mainly come in via the Squeezebox. DVD-A can also carry higher samplerates.- udo
