So you bought one more set of HE 560s? And you still own the first HE 560 which you had bought a long time ago? What's the point? I mean HE 560 are excellent cans, I can confirm that as I've had them for several years, and they are my favorite. But having two sets of HE 560 is something...

It is a good sounding player. Sound is rich, detailed, a little dark... the way I like.

No, I haven't. Because my battery is still OK after 2,5 years or so.

I received the cover exactly like in picture#1, but that was 3 years ago or so. It seems that in picture#2 there's a new type of box like here: http://www.hifiman.com/products/detail/167

    $Defunct Thread$

Right now I've been using them without any amp or any special DAC, it's happened that I've been far away from my collection of mid-fy cans and amp/DAC for a month or so. So straight from the laptop. And I am just shocked how good they sound anyway. But answering your question Beyerdynamic DT...

Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (250 OHM). No detachable cable, but very solid built. 250 OHM but easy to drive even from a laptop. Addictive bass and marvelous highs. I own them 3 years, highly recommended.

Which headphones under $1500 have the most resolution / amount of details?

So, you didn't try HE-560, I see. I heard some nasty dirty things said about HE-560, but that's mostly about some peak in the highs, sibilants... this kind of bad stuff. *I own HE-560, but cannot confirm these complains, or maybe I am not that sensitive to that; non-allergic, so to say. But...

If you do enjoy the process of messing and can afford loosing some money and time doing it - definitely yes!    If not - there are plenty of cans without any sibilance as such to get the needed result instantly.    p.s. saying that I am in love with my HE-560 and can heartily recommend them...

For me it's not bad, it's just right.  But if you have allergy to highs, better listen to the cans before buying them.  If there's need for you to reduce smth... better buy other cans, the choice is insane - you'll find your sound.

If it is in high gain something is probably very wrong.

12 o'clock?  (from my memory) on my ican (mine are without Se though) it's pretty normal.  At least close to 12 o'clock. On the lowest gain.

Well, two weeks, non-stop - 24 hours a day :) First week the sound quality changed sometimes dramatically and got me frightined, then it went on somewhat smoothly. ))   * Sorry for the delay, didn't notice the question.

Welcome to the club!  Those are universal cans, good for gentle music and for some rough metal as well. )))
