You need the wall charger. The data cable does not charge the battery.

The line out is pretty good too, especially through the dock1 station. I haven't bothered using my computers for music play back for a very long time, with the 901s/dock1 combo, I don't feel I miss anything ... Well, other than some DSD music collection .

I returned the 901 and purchased the Lotoo Paw Gold. Im not regretting my choice and recommend the LPG to anyone.

Why did you return it and did you like it when you had it? I just mainly care about sound only.

As I remember I returned it due to a combination of reasons. One of them being that I didn't feel the included amp was sufficient so I had to purchase the MINIBOX Gold amp card and brought the price up. At this point I didn't feel the value of the product. Another thing is that it felt like a prototype to me, unrefined and amateur.

I would say that the sound of the player with the Gold card was good. I would also say that the sound from the Lotoo Paw Gold is better.
