    Rega Apollo: decent transport

I'm a binge listener; I can go months without firing up the system.  A disc on the JVC micro system or college radio on same.  A binge started a few weeks ago.  Some years back I decided that I should get a new player, since the Adcom GDA-600 was already old, and the Yamaha player even older. ...

If you haven't soldered in a while, or ever, go to Rat Shack and pick up a few terminal strips and some wire that's the same gauge (I don't recall off hand), and practice.  Heat the joint, then add the solder.  The joint should be shiny, not matte.  Matte (fuzzy) is cold, which is not good.  Cut...

Cans for Jazz and Blues - can be pricey and high impedance

I've had the K501 for some years, and was happy with them. Now that I have the K701 (a couple of hundred hours), I'd say it is better. The bottom end is much better, the treble is smoother. Soundstage isn't quite as cavernous. More money, though.

Favourite pieces for cello and/or violin?

Heard part of a Beethoven cello sonata on local public radio, so off to Amazon to get the "best". They said Fournier/Kempff. I've no idea how good it is relative to any others, since I've not heard them before. What impresses me about the disc is that is the only one in memory of an...
