Custom Art + AAW : Project 4+2
Wonderful, can I also change specifications to 2.5mm cable termination, instead of 3.5mm one? As seen here: https://www.null-audio.com/collections/universal-in-ear-monitor/products/project-4-2-electrostatic-hybrid-in-ear-monitor- radekhulan

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
RME ADI-2 DAC FS is a good match with HeadAmp Gilmore Lite Mk2 as well. Very neutral and powerful amp, yet cheap (US$ 500). Internal amp is good, excellent for IEMs, but to me HeadAmp can deliver slightly better dynamics / punch with bigger phones.- radekhulan

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Everything is not 44.1, some tracks are 48, some others (w/ MQA) 88,2 or 96. Anyway, RME with stock Windows 10 drivers should autoswitch frequency, but it does not :frowning2: Maybe resampling to 352,8kHz would be smarter, most content is in 44.1. I asked the question also here...- radekhulan

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Well, with some A/B testing I've found I cannot hear difference between bit-perfect ASIO playback from Audirvana vs Tidal and WASAPI resample to 384kHz anyway, so ended-up using stock Tidal app. But somewhere in my head I'm not happy with this solution :-/- radekhulan

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Tidal (WASAPI) cannot switch frequencies on RME, does not matter if RME drivers are used or default Windows 10 ones. "VB Cable" is a hack that translates WASAPI audio to ASIO, RME auto-switches with ASIO, but this bridge introduces stutter. So, the only 100% reliable solution for Tidal and...- radekhulan

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Anybody using with success https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm WASAPI to ASIO wrapper? This is a way to force Tidal play bit-perfect, even via WASAPI, without need to use Audirvana or Roon (I really like Tidal interface). However, I am getting occasional stutters, even on high-end...- radekhulan

Loudness is too brutal change for my taste, and not neccessary for louder volume levels. But I'm using crossfeed, for my IEMs. First time in many years I've found it beneficial, with RME...- radekhulan

Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital Impression Thread
500Mbps download, 10ms latency, should be fast enough to stream a song :) Drop-outs could probably be solved by different / updated S2 firmware, but that will never happen, as chief designer is long gone. Anyway, still do not see any better DAC for €400 :)- radekhulan

Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital Impression Thread
I don't think MQA drop-outs (maybe 2 - 3 per hour) are "issues" with the device, more with Tidal itself. Mytek Digital Liberty DAC, twice as expenive, is having similar problems. Anyway, using MQB is 100% working solution. And while you don't need DAC support for SW unfolding, for rendering you...- radekhulan

Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital Impression Thread
Ahoj :) Pro-ject S2 is the best DAC around € 400. Regarding MQA, it can both unfold (1st pass) and render (2nd pass) MQA, or accept software unfolded MQA (by Tidal) and render it only (=MQB). Sound should be exactly the same in both cases. I'm not sure why, but direct stream seems to be very...- radekhulan

Drop-outs are still there, when doing full hw unfold & rendering. Using it in MQB mode (unfold done by Tidal) helps though.- radekhulan

Using MQB does help with stutters, and I cannot distinguit it (sonically) from MQA. Ie. letting Tidal do the first unfold, while S2 does second. Rock solid, no stutter. Jitterbug and/or better USB cable does not help at all.- radekhulan
