I would agree, that the XL pads make the sound more balanced with slightly less bass and more pronounced Mids and Highs.

I got my XL pads today and so far they feel great.  They do sound different to my ears, I would describe that the bass has less impact and they seem brighter.  I will give them some time and see what I think about them.

My order shipped out today, I ordered the VTF XL's on 8/19....

I would be using the built in DAC for my balanced source, as I do not have an external balanced source.

I have thought of that, but I would be relying on a lesser DAC until I could come up with the funds for the Ultra DAC. I am torn here as you guys can see....
