AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

I own one pair NH, and one pair NO. The NO have slightly better clarity, especially in bass. Overall I prefer the NH because of the soundstage depth and distance. NO is still quite useful to use at my office job. By "distance" I mean that the NO has more forward sound, like I'm in the front row...

    AudioQuest NightOwl - A closed-back NightHawk

I use my NO at my office job, out of a Sony Walkman. Classical music at high volume. Co-workers cannot hear it unless they are two feet away.

I bought these: I bought these and am quite pleased. Total cost would be about $200. 1.2m and all silver. Company is in Latvia. http://www.lavricables.com/cables/ultimate-silver-audioquest-nighthawk-upgrade-cable/

How long do you want your cable to be?

If you can't find the hybrid pads anywhere else, you can order them from the Netherlands. I bought three pairs in June. IMO they are the best for the Nightowl. https://artsexcellence.com/audioquest-hybrid-earpads.html?___store=ae_en&___from_store=ae_nl They have an official price of 59 euros...

AudioQuest NightOwl Carbon or NightHawk Carbon?

I own both NO and NH. I actually use the NO at my office job, and my co-workers can hear my music only when they are about two feet away, and faintly at that. The NH leaks noticeably, but I still use it for taking walks...if I use it on a city bus it goes unnoticed. I also own Amiron Home, and...

    AudioQuest NightOwl - A closed-back NightHawk

I am currently returning a Cowon Plenue D audio player I recently purchased. The sound quality is good, but for NOs and NHs I found that the Plenue D narrows the soundstage - it pushes the sounds of most interest toward the middle of the soundstage. This can make sense from a marketing...

    AudioQuest NightOwl - A closed-back NightHawk

I am not returning my NOs because they are both the best sounding and most comfortable closed back headphones under $500. They would be worth the purchase price if no cable were included.

Camper1995, thanks very much for the comprehensive comparison. Is there a particular silver cable you would most recommend for the Nightowl? I will throw my hat in the ring as another who believes the hybrid pads are best for the NOs. Especially for classical music listeners. The pleather pads...

    AudioQuest NightOwl - A closed-back NightHawk

I bought one pair of Nightowls a few weeks ago. After 100 hours of burn-in, I was so impressed that I bought another set of NOs, seeing that they will be off the market some time soon. I plan to have the second pair just in case the first pair runs down, or is lost, etc. Would you recommend that...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

I am considering purchasing this. My only concern is that it is described as having a warm sound. I already have warm sounding headphones. Any concerns or recommendations?

I also have B&W P7 Wireless, which have never given me this kind of effect. I suppose P7W is in the minority of close back headphones then. Thanks.

    AudioQuest NightOwl - A closed-back NightHawk

I received my Nightowl Carbon yesterday. Extremely comfortable as expected. One issue: I took a long brisk walk outdoors with the headphones playing, and there was a loud thumping noise that came through the music. Can anyone explain this? Is it the headphones or the cable that is producing this?

AudioQuest NightOwl Carbon or NightHawk Carbon?

Ok, so you have both NH and NO. I have read some contradictory reviews. Between the two, which has stronger bass? Which has the warmer sound signature? Would you not recommend NO for classical music listening? Are the ear pads identically shaped for both NO and NH?
