    Best phones for running

Another vote for the Sony ex85. I think they sound really good. Not too warm, but that is personal taste. I think the JVC fx66 is too bright/harsh, for comparison. I also use JVC fx34 and fx33. Not as bright as the fx66. The fx34 and fx33 might have too much isolation for running on streets, but...

    IEMs for a child?

I got my 12 year old a blue marshmallow fx34. They come with smaller size tips, which should fit an 11 year old. She had a big smile on her face when she heard them. Less than $10 shipped on ebay. The isolation is good when we are on drives. She does not need to turn up the volume too high to...

In the gym - what do you use?

It took me about 10 seconds to compare the EX85 with the MDR-AS50. The AS50 sounds like a transistor radio compared to the ex85. We'll, I am sort of exaggerating, but you get the point. I also find the ex85 more comfortable. The AS50 exerts too much pressure for my taste. If the AS50 is an...

In the gym - what do you use?

I am new to headphones, having used an old pair of stock Apple ear buds. I am also looking for gym phones. I don’t think you can pick one just by reviews. It is easy to drive yourself crazy. For every “exercise” pair of phones, some reviews love them and others hate them. There maybe no...

    Sony MDR-AS100

I searched the forums, and could not find anything about these headphones. The Sony MDR-AS100 are claimed to “feature a shock-absorbing mechanism for uninterrupted sound during workouts.” When I use the earphones I have (JVC FX 33 and 34, and the Sony EX85) on the treadmill, I can hear pounding...

    JVC FX33 Mod.

With a FX34, I did the mod with typical poly foam since I don't have any headphone foam. My wife thinks they are now too tinny. She does not know why I messed with her earphones. I tried adding more foam, but I blocked too much of the sound. Either there is a real art to getting the right...

    jvc fx33 vs fx34

It may be too late to save me. All I need is another electronics "hobby." Today I could not resist and got a Philips 2650. It is interesting that people think an unmodified 33 is boomy and not clear. Compared to the 2650, the 33 is "tinny" (possibly grating). Using foam for the mod may mellow...

    jvc fx33 vs fx34

From what I can tell, I suspect that the boomy bass on the 33 is due to the longer foam tip, and having it shoved far in the ear. Considering the price of the 33 on ebay now, I may get one to play with. I actually have two 34's now for different family members. I may mod one to see if I can hear...

    jvc fx33 vs fx34

With the smaller tips on the FX34, did you feel that they still needed to be modded? Check this out: CEH - More Headphone Cords Found in Violation of California Toxics Law

    jvc fx33 vs fx34

Thanks. Do you know if the paper cover on the 33 has a hole in the middle? The cord might have been changed because some cords were thought to cause cancer. I had a pair a while ago, which actually had a "Prop 65" cancer warning label!

    jvc fx33 vs fx34

I just got a FX34. Is sounds pretty darn good to me, but I don't have much to compare them to. They don't seem to have too much bass to me, and the highs are there. I noticed that they have a small hole in the white paper cover. Does the fx33 paper have a hole? Maybe the smaller tips on the fx34...
