Is burn in real or placebo?
On the useful assumption that the planar magnetics require higher power, what could be warming up is the amplifier. Playing music causes more current to flow through the amplifier, increasing its temperature closer to its operating design point. Transistors have electrical properties which...- mbkennel

best headphone/amp combo for Classical.
Try to find a used HD580 for classical (very similar to HD600). I'm a classical guy myself, and that was my first good headphone and still superior to others I've had since. In particular I have a HD595 which should be very close to HD598 other than cosmetics---the 580 is better.- mbkennel

Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
My observation. I have never ever read anybody complaining about the 600's tonal balance. Maybe people felt like they wanted more 'slam' or sparkle or some such, but it always seemed like a preference, often for a certain genre, as opposed to "this sounds wrong". Nearly every other...- mbkennel

Rank the Headphones that You Own.
1) Senn HD580 2) Denon D5000 5) Senn HD595 6) Beyer DT660 (got it on the rec. of David Mahler as good for classical, and needed a closed back for airplane)- mbkennel

Is it worth getting really high-end headphones if your source is 320kbps audio files?
Unquestionably. I once did a personal test using Foobar 2000 to calibrate myself about the differences from hi-res vs 44.1/16 and vs perceptual encoding. The test plug in had an ABX blind tester, but I first wanted to try it unblinded to train myself. The test started with a classical...- mbkennel

If your primary headphone broke today, would you buy another?
I would buy HD600 to replace the HD580. As it turns out I have a HD595 & Denon D5000 willing to sell/trade for a HD600.- mbkennel

Open-back headphone dilemma for acoustic and classical; HD650, HE400, HP200, ATH-AD900x, DT880 or 990, AKG Q701
With your list (which sounds like mine), sounds like the Senn HD600 or HD650 is it. It hits all your points. I have the HD595 (very close predecessor to HD598) and HD580 (predecessor to HD600)---often considered the vanguard of the "new generation" of quality headphones 15-20 years ago. ...- mbkennel

Recos in 2013 for IEMs $50-150 for 99% classical, good sound isolation?
I'm looking for IEM's with good isolation (will use on aircraft) & sound quality. I'm interested in very natural reproduction for classical. I prefer the cylindrical foam tips (disposable/replacable) if possible. My known references are (speaker) Magnepan 3.6, (headphone) Sennheiser...- mbkennel

Buying portable or in-ear headphones? Seeking guidance? DON'T START A NEW THREAD. Ask for advice HERE!
Alright, my turn to ask for recommendation. I'm looking for a sound-isolating phone optimized for classical of all genres---broadband orchestral is the hardest so optimizing for natural sound on that should work for everything. Some use will be on aircraft, some in bed at home. ...- mbkennel

Problem with Schiit Stack (I think... HE-400s cutting out)
Are you connected to a computer? I suspect it has nothing to do with the hardware (which is probably OK), it is a computer/driver glitch. When you removed the cable and replaced it, you disconnected the USB and when reconnecting it reset something. I've had that happen before, I...- mbkennel

Looking for tips to stay alert & focused doing work & homework
I agree with most of the comments, but there is something else to try: nootropics. In particular, for this exact application (well for me work--mathematical software, i'm unfortuantely way too old to have 'homework') I have found some success with oxiracetam + the GPC choline. It doesn't...- mbkennel

memory leak wasapi win7?
This is an old thread, but I found it searching for similar keywords. I also get a memory leak in the system from using WASAPI and foobar2000 and playing for a long time (hours++). Output is standard USB audio driver (MSFT). It looks like a permanent kernel memory leak, as exiting...- mbkennel
