    Classical Music Amp?

First time I've heard of the Beyers favored for classical.  I'll have to consider those in the future.    For detailed listening I've been using the AKG702, but, as anyone can tell you, getting them to be dynamic can be a challenge.  I've been scared to try tubes (I like crisp details), but...

    Classical Music Amp?

So, I'm really torn. What amp is best for symphonic music? Should I be going for a smooth/musical amp like the CEC HD53N or Graham slee Ultra linear, or an articulate PRaT amp like Burson HD160? My DAC is currently a Matrix Mini-i; headphones AKG701 and Senns HD580. Optimally I'd keep the...

    An Amp for Sennheiser HD580's?

Second the DAC/AMP combo idea. Get yourself off the Laptop's inadequate sound card. I'm using a Matrix Mini-i for my HD580, and it sounds pretty good now, where it used to sound like mud through my HT receiver. I'm sure there are cheaper options, though I can't tell you how the Musiland Amp is...

Ready for my first HeadAmp (for HD580, AKG702)

Anyone, Schiit Lyr or Matrix Quattro or Burson? Looking for neutral sound, with authority

Ready for my first HeadAmp (for HD580, AKG702)

Mini-i is a balanced DAC, which really teases me to go that direction for the HD580. Right now liking the Senns much more anyway. But I want to give the AKG702 some love too. I thought the Matric Quattro would be a good idea, but can't get any info on it. People rave over the matrix m-stage, but...

Ready for my first HeadAmp (for HD580, AKG702)

Can anyone tell me if I should go Matrix Quattro balanced amp, or go for a Burson HA-160?   Cans are HD580 and AKG702 off a matric mini-i dac

    Tweaking the PC (my findings)

Source First!!! Recently tweaked my PC to death, and thought I'd share my findings with the community:  Note, this is all external DAC, USB to Matrix mini-i.  WAV only.   Windows 8 developer preview (better sounding than Win7!  More transparent)  Don't ask me why, but this is what I've...

Ready for my first HeadAmp (for HD580, AKG702)

Hi everyone. For a long time I used Senns HD580 on my Marantz receiver (yes, I know).  Always sounded a bit muddy.  This year I got AKG702, which matched much better, but I wanted more.  Got a matrix mini-i for my PC, and found out the HD580 actually sound brilliant, though mini-i doesn't...

    San Diego/North County California

I'll drive to Newport Beach. Just get a head count before so you won't be tempted to cancel last second. wink wink

    San Diego/North County California

OK, what happened here? I, thankfully, live 10 minutes away and so when I showed up and nobody was there it didn't quite ruin my weekend. But, I didn't know there was a headcount criteria to make it happen. Had we advance notice I bet something could have been salvaged. Again,...no warning??! Why?

I don't see why we can't use a clubhouse. I have one as a possibility- free! Are we expecting something too large, or do we need separate rooms? It would help to know what we're in for. Perhaps we should start a running tally of those who plan to attend (Date pending), and separate into...

My first audiophile can, the Sennheiser 580

The way you are describing the soundstage of the Senn is exactly what I've been experiencing. Yes there's a slight dip in the upper mids but more often it's the spaciousness I'm noticing. Now, I like the seperation, and it's the first can I've had with seperation of any kind that is worth a...

    HD580 with HD650 cable?

That's the way mine came, part of the package. So I can't say for certain if they improved the sound in any way or not. I can only say it sounds pretty good to me!

    Headphone List by Music Genre

I have a friend who swares by the Grado SR 325, the brightest (harshest) headphone in the lineup, when listening to classical music. This is contrary to most everyone else when speaking of classical, but he loves the engaged sound and extreme detail those cans bring. To each their own.
