Alright, looking to snag a pair of wireless earbuds in the $150-200 range. Managed to not buy any new headphones for the past few years, and I feel out of the loop. Any suggestions?

It really isnt too much different from the 600. The mids took a small hit, but Id say its smack dab in the middle of 600 and 650. The bass isnt as (dont roast me) "sloppy" sounding as the 650. It has more sub bass than the 650/6xx. I could justify keeping it along side the HD600/50 easy.

I have the velour pads, so I cant comment on the hybrids. They did the same for these as they did for my HD600. Increased the soundstage a bit and made the mid range stand out a bit. The bass takes a small hit, as does the comfort. But again, this is just the velour pads.

I think for the price, the quality is fine. Id say theyre on par with the HD5-- series in terms of build quality, but compared to the HD600/650, the plastic does feel a little cheap.

Yes. HD5-- series use the same pads. You can use the pads from your HD569 on your HD598 and vice versa. I got the HD558 pads for my 598 Cs.

I really wouldnt say that about the Valhalla 2. It did widen the soundstage and get rid of the "veil" on the HD600, but on the HD700, it just seemed to emphasize the inherent qualities of them. The Valhalla 2 is a strange beast in that regard. At least this is the case with stock tubes.

HD579/598 DT990/770 32 or 80ohm I use my DT990 and a desktop mic for gaming. Typically, headset iterations of headphones are just more expensive for the gaming branding they slap on it. I would buy a cheap mic and spend your money on a decent pair of headphones.
