how to get sound from Xbox 360?
You can also use the Emu 0404 USB, by connecting an optical cable to the HDTV-cable of the 360, an extremely easy solution, that in turn gives you great sound quality.- Halqyon

USB 0404 and Vista = works great
Nope, wasn't an option, had heard good things about Vista from my brother, so I opted for Vista instead. I made this thread to show people that Vista + 0404 does work, and so far I haven't experienced any problems.- Halqyon

A little over one week ago I received my brand new 0404, naturally this was exciting, but things went downhill fast (used Windows XP). I heard crackles and pops when I played music, so naturally I headed over to this forum for som advice. There were lots of suggestions on how to fix this...- Halqyon

Pops and crackles when using Emu 0404 USB
I did that, but there are no errors being reported. I'm going through the troubleshooter now. But do you think formating the pc would correct things? I think I'm going to buy Vista soon.- Halqyon

Pops and crackles when using Emu 0404 USB
Yeah, some 1710's came with the other soundcard, I chose the cheapest one :S I can't rollback the driver since it has not been backed up, but maybe if I uninstall it and then reinstall, then it will work?- Halqyon

I'm using System Restore to check what I've been installing: I've installed a couple of drivers, a wifi driver, new bios and a driver for the Sigmatel soundcard.- Halqyon
