Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

Yes, my impression was as well that the MB card was tonally nice but lacks dynamics & transparency in comparison to my Modi 3 D/S. However, I would like to be careful: it is indeed hard to match the volume, and additionally I have not a full overview what USB implementation is on the card vs...

This was exactly my impression with the Asgard 3.

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

I agree, my impression are somewhat casual: 1) I did not directly compare the 4490 card with the Modi 3. However, the sound of violins in that one recording I have was very irritating with the card. Modi 3 does a good job here. 2) I have not controlled for the influence of the USB connection...

I actually meant the D/S version, to my own surprise. I really like my MB dacs for my 2 channel systems, but in this case the Modi 3 does sound more transparent to my ears than the MB card. Modi 3 is a hell of a DAC for the price. I have owned Modi 2 uber in the past and I was not so happy with...

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

So, now finally I can provide some impressions with the Asgrad 3 and the Beyer DT880 600. Schiit Europe sent me first an A3 with 4490 DAC module instead of the ordered MB card. They then quickly exchanged it, but as a result I got to listen to both cards. Additionally, I have tried my Modi 3 D/S...

Thank you, your point with the OTL amp in the future is very good. We also have a Crack amp here, so it makes sense to buy a compatible version of the 880. The DT880 600 ohm has arrived in the meantime, and it is indeed a very nice headphone. Much nicer for my taste than the 770. The A3 has not...

This was my impression too. Thank you for chiming in, I have ordered the 600 ohm version. Great to hear from someone who owns the combination. I was afraid that it would sound too bright, in comparison to the HD600 the DT770Pro does sound bright. I am curious how they are when properly amped...

Schiit Asgard 3 - Impressions Thread

I have a question: I would like to buy a proper setup for my girlfriend for her office. I just have ordered the Asgard 3 MB. The headphone requirement is closed or semi-closed. So I bought the Beyer DT770 Pro, but we are thinking about getting he DT880 for comparison and sending back the one we...

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

Dear all, I have not posted here for quite a while. I am so happy with my Gumby USB Gen 5 fed by Audirvana from a 2009 Mac Mini, Vidar, and Freya... However, because of curiosity I started to tinker around with a Rasberry Pi 3B+. I am very happy: There is a way to use the RPI like a...

This is something I experienced, too. Or it was my way to look at it first. But I realized for me that the 'harshness' is the other side of the realism, and actually in live music you will hear often rather harsh moments... I feel this is a matter of taste and aesthetics. I got used to it and...

    Clone Note LDR Attenuator

wow, after more than a year someone takes an interest :D It is a really nice project, and it sounds good... at least I could feed my Parasound A23 very nicely with it. However, I recently changed to a Schitt Vidar, and this one wants to be driven actively... or maybe I did not do a good job in...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Dear all, I have posted some enthusiastic posts about Gumby in the Gungnir thread before. But now I am a proud Vidar owner, so I think this here might be the right place despite my lack of cats (hilarious, please keep posting). I am now listening for two weeks. I left Vidar on all the time...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

A name that does not come up so often but whose Beethoven cycle I really like is Guenter Wand.

The Brahms ballads by ABM are THE reference recording for me. Unfortunately, ABM did this with several pieces, I mean delivering a reference recording that leaves you unsatisfied with even the best live performances. Ravel piano concerto is another example. :)

Yes, I used Wyrd before, but did not use it with USB Gen 5. The music interupted, so it was not only a change of the re-clocking mode I think. I am using Flac, redbook CD and Audirvana on a Mac. Maybe it was a computer glitch. I will observe. If it returns I will contact the technical support...
