Fostex HP-P1 Portable DAC for iPhone, iPod and iPad (With Built-In Headphone Amp) - Head-Fi TV, Episode 011

Nobody else thought the audio in this episode slipped from previous episodes?

    Cut the blind testing crap

Alright, even though I started the thread, I'm unsubscribing from it, so you guys can keep arguing whatever your arguing at this point, but its just gotten too abstract and apples-to-oranges for me to keep up with it.

    Cut the blind testing crap

I believe that mike was describing putting soundwaves together in such a manner that they create the illusion of "beauty". I think you guys are bickering over semantics now.

Who listens to music on crappy gear for nostalgia?

Maybe its not "nostalgia" so much as hearing the song on a piece of gear for the first time and never fully enjoying it on any other gear. To this date I still prefer listening to my e2cs with a bass heavy "V" equalization for some songs. Its not a real sonic "preference", but thats how I...

Quote: I thought he was making it a great thread. I don't agree with him but I like to see a different thought process than my own or ones similar to my own.

    Cut the blind testing crap

Quote: I see. I would argue that just listening to a piece of gear to tell how transparent it is, is even sillier. "Transparency" is essentially how close a piece of gear comes to replicating the sound in such a way that you perceive it as the engineer had perceived it. Unless you have...

    Cut the blind testing crap

Mike, either I'm just stupid, or your just throwing in "big words" for the sake of making your argument sound more credible and well thought out than it is. I'm guessing its some combination of the two. Anyway, I don't care about this perception / reality nonsense, it sounds like your using an...

    Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones

I've never heard a pair of grados but based on the graphs / testimonials, it sounds like they would be colored to be brighter, which, for me, absolutely rapes a metal song. I can tolerate coloration downwards, but not upwards.

    Can DIY planars be done?

Conductive paint sounds like a good idea. What requirements are there to drive a dead short?

    Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones

How are the grados good with death metal? I've heard on the forums that they color the mids upwards so guitars and such sound a lot more shrill and generally not-heavy.

Quote: When I say that everything can be measured, I mean that there is no magical "energy" produced by a transducer. Its all compressions and rarefactions in the air which are tangible, measurable, things. There is no black magic behind soundstage or clarity or coloration, all of it is...

    Cut the blind testing crap

Audio gear - use, reproducing audio recordings to sound as close to what the sound engineer intended as possible. Now that we've established what we should be using the item for, can we start engineering tests to measure how well it does that?

    Cut the blind testing crap

"So you are saying you would happily use a small branch to prop up a bridge, because it measured to the needed length?"   Well last time I checked, branches don't change thickness, the "model" of this branch could be 2 feet long by 6 feet in diameter. That 6 foot diameter won't spontaneously...

    Cut the blind testing crap

Quote: I don't understand what your driving at. Measurements, when you take them accurately, will accurately describe a reality in a given scenario. If I measure a stick in a typical, room temperature, average humidity atmosphere, that will be reality, or at least close enough to reality...
