The correct way should be: Connect headphone to Dune adapter Connect the combination to the phone

Just received HD58X from Massdrop. Wow, what a difference when paired with my G7. IMO HD58X could be the perfect fit as sensitivity of 104 and impedance of 150Ohm is about right to unleash the full power of Quad DAC without demanding more.

I don't think any recent XiaoMi phone carry a ESS chip... audio quality is not their focus. For your second question, try pickup a second hand G6 or V20?

To trigger aux mode, you need to plug the adapter only without cable. That means infinate impedance. However the iFi product, by itself, has a very low impedance due to the circuit inside. It's much lower than 50 Ohm. Therefore the phone recognize it as a low-impedance device like an IEM.

No you can't. These products have a very low impedance and will put phones into normal mode no matter you plug it alone or with a headphone attached to it. Don't ask why I know this :( Plus, they tend to change the sound signature to be a more dull mid and less punchy bass. After compareing with...

I have G7 and Nex S on hand at the moment and am planning to sell the Nex S. Regarding audio (in aux or high impedance mode for G7), Nex has a warmer sound which may lead to some added musicality, but not as energetic / punchy. On the other hand, G7 is just very balanced, neutral and precise...

Both phone will give you enough loudness. However the quality of sound is much better on LG. For ES100, it would be a step back too compared to V30.

    LG V30

It's a big step back if we are talking about audio quality. I'll probably stick with LG as I have iPhone as my main daily driver.

I've purchased a 75 ohm impedance adapter which I will keep it attached permenantely to my SHP9500. This hopefully makes things easier. I however don't know if that will change the sound of a headphone.

I believe that it will affect frequency response when more power is added. Bass response will improve due to higher voltage / current being feed into the headphone. I’m not 100% sure about the mechanism behind it. But I tend to believe that the most significant difference one can hear is the...

Definitely more punchy bass in high impedance mode. Higher Vrms means more energy. Also note that there are significant benefit on SNR, dynamic range too. Measurement from LG G7 can confirm this https://imgur.com/gallery/fADatDd Normal mode is just too weak for anything other than some IEMs.

It's still Hi-Fi mode. You simply detach the audio cable from your headphone first. Now plug the cable into the phone. Wait a few seconds before plugging the other end back into your headphone. Now you are in AUX (Line Out) mode. You should notice increased volume. You can also purchase this app...

    LG G7 ThinQ DTS-X

Recently, I'm using a Philips SHP9500 with LG G7 and noticed a significantly different sound between normal HiFi mode and Line Out / AUX Mode. In Aux mode, bass is more punchy and vocal has more density. Yesterday I found this measurement result off a G7. Seems to confirm my own experience...

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)

I’ve been using Vivo Nex S for a few months. Very happy with its audio quality. Other pros including nice screen, good camera and large battery. However the touch screen is not as sensitive as other phones, and Bluetooth audio is buggy and will stutter with my WH1000-XM3. Anyway, I’m about to...
