Where is the degradation in the signal path and how do I know

So I have this setup:   MacBook PRO streaming FLAC to AppleTV AppleTV is connected via HDMI to TV TV is connected via Optical cable to Musical Fidelity M1 DAC DAC is connected via analog cable to Marantz PM8005     Is it a fully digital transmission from MBP to DAC? Or is there some D/A...

Songs that make your headphone WOOOOOW!!!

@Aurthur, but can you then explain how we are able to hear frequencies from a headphone of <13.5kHz? 13.5kHz equals about 1 inch, so anything below that frequency, and thus with a greater wavelength, you would not be able to hear? Or would it be distorted? How does it work?   Not criticising...

World's first portable Hybrid Valve Headphone Amplifier (with a footprint smaller than most cellphones).

Hi Brooko, any idea when you get to do the (full) review? I already backed, but I am curious what I am getting myself into ;)

headphones and amp for around 100

In that pricerange you don't usually need an amp.   I think the Shure SRH440 might be a good fit. They go for $67 at amazon. From what I remember they've got a pretty decent bass, pretty comfy and overall a nice listening experience.

Philips SHE3580 IEM review--how can something sound so good for $10???

That looks like a good equalizer for Android. Maybe you could share with us where/how we could find that gem? (I googled but it wasn't very fruitful)

Hearing new details in new headphones is a myth

****, I'm gonna bite.   Let's take it to the extreme: Suppose you have a tiny little detail (the sound of breathing, someone moving their feet, perhaps even a small percussion instrument that's even barely noticeable on high end phones), and that piece of detail lives in a tiny little...

    [Review] Roland RH-D30

Quote: Well, I had actually hoped nobody would ask about that ;) Just kidding, but I don't really know how or where to start. All I can say is it feels right and pretty much balanced. Though I think it is slightly U-shaped. It is definitely not 'bright', as in piercing highs that...

    [Review] Roland RH-D30

Okay, so here comes the review, been listening to them for about 50 hours I guess.    First I would like to say that I didn't believe in the burning in of headphones, now I'm not so sure anymore… For the first 20 to 30 hours the sound definitely changed. Can't really...

why are all headphones considered bang for your buck and comapred to headphones more expensive? Also includes my summery of sound and placebo effect.

It's a general trend I see here (yeah, I've been here for a week, but it's pretty obvious), the majority is looking for high-priced gear that is supposedly good (and I don't doubt it (mostly) is). Looking at those great reviews, they MUST be good. But let's be honest: not everybody's hearing is...

    [Review] Roland RH-D30

This is the start of a review of the Roland RH-D30's. I've got them for a couple of days now, so I feel it is too early for a full review, but I'll start with some nice pictures and reviewing the fit and build, plus my first impressions of these phones.             I...

Could you guys recommend me a pair of headphones?

If you're new to this whole 'audiophilia' thing, I would definitely *not* recommend shelling out a gazillion bucks for a pair of phones or phone/dac/amp combo.   I *do* recommend getting a pair of decent phones in the sub $200 range (usually no amp needed, but could benefit from one) and...

Songs that make your headphone WOOOOOW!!!

I've been listening to my phones (Roland RH-D30) just for the first time today, but these songs are absolutely great:   Dave Brubeck - Take Five Massive Attack - Teardrop Van Halen - Eruption Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

    Dennis' quest for great phones

Alright, I've decided. And acted. Currently listening to my new Roland's! They are *awesome*.   Very sturdy construction, cups and hinges made of aluminium, headband feels solid and very comfortable. Good clamping force, not skullcrushing, but they stay in place very well.  They sound...

    Dennis' quest for great phones

Went to another store today, heard another three contenders (well, I heard some more, but these stood out): Shure SRH440, Roland RH-D30 and Sennheiser HD280.   This gets harder by the day.. And doh! Now I'm back listening to my girl's crappy 447's, which sound like hell. I want new...
