Quote: I wouldn't use the DT990 250 ohms without an amp let alone the 600 ohms! You greatly run the risk of underdriving them and damaging the drivers! Seriously, do not use them until you have at the very least a high gain CMOY. Especially don't us the EQ as an "amp", you should only...- Deathwish238

Integrated beats audio :(
^^ lol I believe that's sarcasm Quote: Nope they're not great profit at all. Imagine how much less they'ld make if they actually tried to spend more on quality. HP was so close to exiting the PC business last year, really wish they did.- Deathwish238

Causes of Soundstage, Imaging, etc.
Oh interesting, that is indeed very different and also very useful. So then it would be interesting to see the FR of headphones that appear to have a good soundstage and compare them to the FR of sound coming from left/right. Help Finding Comfortable Headphones for Daily 10+ Hour Use
Sounds like your head/ears are on the larger side. I have been using my HD555s for 8 hours a day and have not had a single hour of my ears hurting or head hurting. They barely touch my ears at all and only 1-2" of the headband touches the top of my head. I'm not short/small either, 5'11.- Deathwish238

lol -12, that's just hilarious. Quote: Because HP does not give two ****s about making a good laptop. They only care to make money, when you make something to only make money it will never be great.- Deathwish238

Causes of Soundstage, Imaging, etc.
Illusion is a good word to use. Obviously, with headphones you cannot technically have a real soundstage since it emanates from directly beside your ears versus speakers which will allow for a true soundstage. Yet, there's no doubt that different headphones can have drastically different sound...- Deathwish238

Difference between "revealing" and "detailed"?
Revealing and detailed are related. Revealing headphones show the details of a recording. No such thing as good or bad details, they just are. Raw, less mastered tracks where the instruments may sound off to you can be greatly enjoyable if you simply appreciate the music as it is. Happens a lot...- Deathwish238

How do we know if something is actually "neutral"?
Quote: Two things: Our ears do not hear linearly with volume. As you turn the volume up, their sensitivity to bass and treble go down to protect our ears. Our ears to begin with do not hear things flatly. Bass is hardest to hear followed by treble. So a V with more bass than...- Deathwish238

The Holy Grail...
Quote: Like others have, the first path is what I recommend as well. Leave the coloring to your headphones and try to get as neutral as possible of a amp and dac. I'm not a big fan of EQing, but I am okay with EQing to make a flatter sound if absolutely needed. I have not had the...- Deathwish238

Objectively "Good" Amps and DACs
I would not throw it away. I would acquire more products and try to figure out a correlation between the sound and the measurements if possible. It has never happened to me, usually the numbers match up with what I hear. Quote: Anyone can convince themselves to go either...- Deathwish238

Best headset under $150?
Better off getting audiophile headphones and adding a mic to it imo. The Audio Technica AD700s are very popular for gaming because of their huge soundstage and able to use them unamped...but they don't really have much bass. I love gaming on my DT990s, great soundstage too and excellent bass and...- Deathwish238

Anymore thoughts on this DAC? The built in audio controls is interesting and a headphone amp too makes it a pretty good value- Deathwish238
