    = HiFiMAN HE-560 Impressions & Discussion Thread =

Yes, I would recommend the prebuilt for just about anyone since the price difference is small and it comes with a good warranty. I went the DIY route as I’m off work for the Holidays and I wanted a fun project to keep me busy. I used to build guitar pedals back in the day and I miss the smell...

Yes, you can adjust the brightness with a small screwdriver or disable the light completely.

My HE-560s arrived today and I have a Polaris kit on the way so I'll post my impressions once I get a chance to listen. I've read so many good things about the synergy that I had no problem buying blind.

AudioQuest Dragonfly Review : Affordable, Outstanding, Tiny DAC / Amp

I just got my v1.0 Dragonfly and it is impressive for the $99 price.  I was hoping to replace my DACport (1 Ohm mod) as it is a little cumbersome with my laptop and not quite as portable. With my UM Miracles it is very close with a slightly colder/more analytical tone in the vocal range and a...

REVIEW (more to come) - CEntrance DACport 24/96 USB DAC Amp

Quote: I have the same curiosity.  I read a review where the Asgard was a big upgrade to the DACport in the bass and separation category but I would need to look for a dedicated DAC just as transparent. Since I seemed to have reached my practical peak for headphones, I'm always wondering...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Quote: At least for me, removing cotton improved the treble spike and sibilance without negatively affecting the high end sparkle that I love.  I ended up going back twice to remove a layer and the final result was exactly 1/2 the amount called for in the mod (by weight).  I also feel that...

Unique Melody Miracle Review & Impressions Thread

Quote: Nice to see another portable amp mentioned that isn't widely discussed. I was curious to learn more about this amp but unfortunately their web page has no specifications or measurements that I can see. Can't buy an amp based on a short description.

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Quote: I did a variation of the DBV #3 and the Rastapants notes I read.  The main deviation from the DVB #3 is: No treble dot No fiberglass and only 1/2 the amount of cotton. No felt anywhere on the cup, only foam Removed felt from front of driver Added foam to plasticine areas...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Quote: No, I had the 500s about a year ago.  I remember them being my favorite can at the time but my UM Miracles being slightly superior for detail and vocals.  Now my T50RPs are superior to my UMs.

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

I have to say that I am amazed by these headphones more each day.  I have a pair of Unique Melody Miracles that cost close to $1k and these modified $100 headphones surpass them in almost every way.  Closed miced (that looks wrong) songs such as Damien Rice and Natalie Merchant sound ethereal. ...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Did you try with other size cup port holes?  I had the same treble issues as you until I 1) removed all of the felt in the cup and replaced with foam, 2) covered the Newplast with 1/8" foam pcs. and 3) Left 2 1/2 of the outside vents open.  I first tried leaving all of the vents open but the...

It looks tempting but not the kind of mod you can easily fix if things go wrong.  I'll stick with the mostly reversible mods for now...

Unique Melody Miracle Review & Impressions Thread

Quote: There are a ton of pictures on the Unique Melody Facebook page.  I scanned all of them before settling on translucent purple.

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

So I got tired of messing around and opened them one last time.  Lost the treble reflectors, took all but 1 gram of cotton out, opened the bottom ear cup port all of the way (other 3 taped over) and opened the driver port.  Finally, the bass is balanced with the treble and Holy Crap it hits...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

So I made more progress and thought they were good and sealed them up.  After 30 minutes or so the treble is still too much compared to the mids and bass.  I don't want to keep opening them (not the screws so much since I used tape; the pads are getting stretched) so I am wondering if less...
