Good luck with the USB DAC being found in wine. I'm not sure how it can be done but I guess it must be able to some how. Can I suggest you use Amarok? I use it on my Linux partition with ALSA and OSSMixer. Its not that bad and if you can configure the MYSQL database for it, its lightning fast.

on board sound on a laptop or desktop is dire IMO. I use a the optical out from my X-Fi to a DAC on my desktop and a USB DAC on my laptop

a5s don't do too well near the walls because of their rear ports. they need a good bit of space behind them to work at their fullest imo if you're that stuck for space ... headphones???
