Ultimate Ears broke: Need to purchase decent IEM's from Canadian retail outlet for a trip
I figured I'd overpay buying in Canada. If the retail cost wasn't that much then I would overpay less. $115 is a bit much. If there was a decent product under $50 then hopefully I wouldn't overpay that much. Any other recommendations in the budget range?- bmckenney

Ultimate Ears broke: Need to purchase decent IEM's from Canadian retail outlet for a trip
I'm heading off on a month long trip and my daughter just broke my Ultimate Ears. I will get them fixed when I return. I've read a number of threads and searched the board looking for budget IEM's (and found the "Buying IEMs or ear buds or portable phones? DON'T START A NEW THREAD. Ask...- bmckenney

Would A5's be improvement over A2's straight out of laptop?
The A2's are not muddy sounding and not bass heavy at all. Bass light is more like it. I suspect it was not an ideal setup. I would get the A2's with stand and the matching sub. Smaller footprint on the desk. But good room filling bass because of the sub. Play around with placement of the 2's...- bmckenney

help me find/choose a (balanced) dac/preamp (all in one) for use with computer/poweramp/speakers and stax $2000 second hand
I believe a Metric Halo ULN-2 will do wall of what you want, but it is a pro audio device with other things you don't need. Much like the Lavry mentioned above. But even though it has more than what you need like A to D, mic pres, the DAC and preamp, which you do need, are so well regarded in...- bmckenney

Appropriate headphone type/style for bicycling
Are these really cheap over the ear headphones like the Koss and Sony going to sound good? Maybe I should have added SQ as a criteria. Or maybe I should lower my expectations on SQ for this application. Bryan- bmckenney

Appropriate headphone type/style for bicycling
I have UE Pro 5's and find them to be reasonable but not great for bicycling. In one sense they provide reasonable SQ because they block out some of the outside sound, but wind rush from riding still comes thru. Plus the seal is always being broken because of body and head movement. Also, I...- bmckenney

David at Jaben
Wilson got back to me. It's been a month since my order was placed and as mentioned they might be hung up in customs. He's going to trace it. In the meantime he's sent me another pair via EMS along with a "gift". Great guy. Great service. My unanswered emails are also explainable. They ended...- bmckenney

I ordered some IEMs from him almost a month ago. Paypal payment was processed and he sent me a thank-you for the order email. I have yet to receive the phones and he has not returned 3 of my emails to him inquiring as to whether he shipped or not. Has anyone heard anything about David and Jaben...- bmckenney

I can't proceed to the checkout on that website. I get a "The recipient of this shopping cart link is not an approved shopping cart user." msg from PayPal. I also emailed Wilson and no response. Is there a known issue here? Thanks, Bryan- bmckenney

Ideal amp for EIMs, not can's.
There is a thread about being underwhelmed with a ipdo, dlo, dedicated amp and iem's that I might have started. I read all of the responses and I think I get it. iem's do not respond to a dedicated amp compared a difficult load like can's. One of the replies in the thread stated that a CMOY amp...- bmckenney
