Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday
Hi. Not sure if anyone has asked this yet (haven't read all 43 pages), but how does this compare to the original CTH? I own the original. It was hand built for me. It lives on my bedside table and it's my most used headphone amp. My current go-to headphones for it are the Sennheiser HD-598...- barleyguy

That seems to imply I'm younger than you, which I'm not sure is true.- barleyguy

Customs IEM and how long it last??
For me personally, my custom IEMs have had a good fit for maybe 3-4 years. My first pair were soft silicone eartips. I got them in 2009, and by 2012 or so they still went in my ears, but were too tight so the IEMs would tend to squeeze out. My second pair were Unique Melody remolds. I got them...- barleyguy

2015 CanJam @ RMAF Impressions thread - (October 2-4, 2015)
I'm an idiot. I missed RMAF this year because I thought it was on the 9th, and I haven't been engaged in things lately. Oh well, I hope it was a great show as usual, and I'll catch you guys next year. Cheers, Harley.- barleyguy

Reply to review by 'barleyguy' on item 'HiFiMAN HE-560'
@NA Blur The HE-560, like all of HifiMan's orthos, is open backed and then damped with felt. Fang spends hours and hours tuning the damping before he releases something, and often makes minor tweaks even after release. You could theoretically adjust the damping for more bass, but it's extremely...- barleyguy

On the topic of Atlus, Persona 5 is my #1 most anticipated game right now. I am even considering buying a PS4 the day it comes out, so I can remote play it and so I can have it on a longer term platform. Persona 3 is my favorite so far. I liked the characters in it, especially the mystery...- barleyguy

Interesting. Final Fantasy 9 is possibly my all time favorite. I recently got legal copies of 4, 7, 8, and 9 for PSP, and X-HD for Vita. (I have 6 for Nintendo DS.) I've been focused on #7 so far, and it's such a great game. When I eventually get through them all I may have a new opinion of...- barleyguy

Though this is probably undiplomatic, I need to jump in here and say that ECT is something I'm strongly opposed to. I'm not just speaking from the peanut gallery here. A few years ago I actually fought a state hospital to keep them from shocking a friend of mine. But I'll probably keep my mouth...- barleyguy

The video is very eastern european. or Russian. I'm not sure you could ever get American teenagers to wear those outfits. The "weirdness" may also have some cultural roots. Not a criticism at all; I actually like it. Just a comment on the differences between cultures.- barleyguy

Inline reply, because I seem compelled to reply to the whole post... Quote: Hang in there. It sounds like life is at least interesting, which is enough reason to hang in there I think. Quote: It sounds like you're enjoying your new Mac, and have the right attitude to...- barleyguy

Agreed, actually. It seems that often the difference between different ideologies is primarily one of transparency. And democratic systems often fall on the lower end of the scale in terms of transparency. Going back to times of the cold war, Second World countries were openly socialist...- barleyguy

This post somehow reminded me of Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai. It was influenced by many eastern movies. One of my favorite films, BTW.- barleyguy

That's rad. I'm actually old enough to have edited audio with a razor blade and tape. I thought that was really old school, never knew that it was once done with a spot welder. It's a good thing they invented mylar tape, because I wouldn't trust most of the stoned DJs I knew with a spot...- barleyguy

I have the same issue with video game backlog. My full backlog is probably 200 games, though I only have about 50 that I have any realistic plan to get to. I'm old. My first favorite game was Asteroids. My first console was a Coleco Vision. I had an NES, but tended more towards Zelda than...- barleyguy
