You can't use 12SN7 on the SE.

As was recommended the brimar CV1863 is hands down the best rectifier tube for the money. out of all the tubes I have so far it might be the best period. Jonathan c posted a link where to buy them I believe from England directly. For drivers I can't help you there because I have a 2nd gen SE so...

if i buy a 596 i intend to buy it directly from woo with the adapter. $175 isnt bad at all considering the prices of many other tubes including the $400 596. looks like im gonna be browsing ebay for the next week lol.

what does one of those run? i took your advice a while ago and got the brimar 1863. shortly after got a sophia mesh plate thinking it would be better and the brimar is the winner there if we arent taking looks into account. i have been considering a 596 but possibly one of these instead?

It's been a long time since I have used the stock pads but I remember the fenestrated sheepskin pads sounding better everywhere after putting them on I'll never go back to the stock pads again.

I dont remember if there was a notable change to the mids or highs but definitely an increase in bass. For me the fenestrated sheepskin are perfect for the elex.

I can wear them for hours without issue but I also have a giant neck so I'm not sure my opinion is valid lol.

You are a legend for doing this. I use oratorys EQ profiles on all of my headphones.

A non EQed hd6xx/650 is not a headphone I would call punchy myself. Sounds like the hd600 is really what you need if you think the bass is too much on those.

Hart audio is what I use. Multi hundred dollar cables won't make a difference. Sorry, not sorry.:sunglasses:
