    hfb - 12.5.14 -- 12.31.14 - Flatland twins lit by fire

Aphex Twin and Burial are the only electronic musicians I can even tolerate. They are simply in a league well beyond anything else in the genre.

    Havi b3 pro 1 thread 2.0

Having not had a chance to respond properly in the other thread (working all day), I'll post a response here. My main issue with the Havi is simply that their reproduction is not as accurate or high-fidelity as some of its competitors. In fact, it's very far off of some entry-level sets. ...

It's not a matter of opinion. The VSD3S simply outperforms the Havi, whether you prefer its sound signature or not. And no, I don't have a faulty pair. I've heard 4 pair to date, and either it's simply how the headphone sounds, or terrible quality control. I've inclined to believe the former...

    Havi B3 Pro-1 Impressions Thread

These have to be, without question, one of the absolute worst-sounding headphones I have ever heard. They do absolutely nothing well. They're harsh, flabby, have a terrible channel imbalance, and sound confused with even the most basic music. Tyll was spot-on when he called these things "an...

Actually, the CE is the Mk II. The Mk I does not have an internally braided cable like the CE does, but the Mk. II does. The only difference between the MK I and MK II was the form and composition of the cable. The CE shares a cable with the MK II, and is therefor a MK II. The sounds...

What an interesting take on strain relief design. Cables are generally the main source of trouble with IEM durability, with problems usually stemming from cable entry points, but this seems like really good design.

    Alternate cable for HE-400.

I've had some really bad luck with the standard cable that ships with the HE-400; I'm on my 3rd one in just over a year, and I'm looking into alternate cable options. I don't believe in spending big money on cables (even the $60 for the stock replacement is ridiculous), so the only other option...

Relative to the HE-400, the 712 was lacking in bass impact, tightness, extension, and texture. The treble was also more harsh and metallic than the HE-400, which is hot, but not harsh. The midrange on the K712 was odd. It wasn't bad, per se, but it definitely wasn't natural-sounding. The HE-400...

scoyig: I tried a number of different tips and insertion depths, all to little benefit. I've never once had any issues getting a perfect fit with every IEM I've ever used, and these were no exception; the fit was fine, they just don't sound anywhere near as good as a pair of IEMs should at that...

"Why did u pay $400 for these i got mine for 250 and u can find them all day for $300 new?" Because they retailed at $400 when I got them, and I didn't want a used pair because of the numerous revisions that it has gone through. I wanted to know what I was getting.  "Now that I have the...

The HE-500 are certainly a better headphone, but at twice the price, I don't think they are a better value. As for the HE-4, my time with them was limited, but I did get a chance to A/B them with my own pair of HE-400s. While there were some things that the HE-4 did better, I preferred the...

Review by 'Alondite' on item 'HiFiMAN HE-400'

After using IEMs almost exclusively, I decided that it was about time to step into the realm of full-sized cans. I wasn't about to spend $1000, but I still wanted better than mid-fi sound. My options were pretty limited, and it came down to either the HD600 or the HE-400. In the end I decided...

Got a chance to hear these and I was not impressed at all. The bass was way overblown, and absolutely did bleed into the mid-range, the treble is very peaky and there is some nasty ringing up top. They're both boomy and bright, and combined with the heavily veiled upper-mids, they sounded...

I'd never, ever consider using the Gratitudes for rock music. The best and most interesting parts of rock music are the intricate guitar lines, drum/brush work, and screamed vocals, all of which are masked considerably my the Gratitudes obnoxiously overblown bass.    Not really, not...

    VSONIC GR07 Impressions Thread

The GR07 basically does everything better than the Gratitude. The Gratitude has ridiculously overblown bass (it's elevated some 15 dB), a syrup-like midrange, and harsh, peaky treble. There's nothing "fun" or "musical" about them; they smear detail, have an unnatural timbre, and pretty much suck...
