Don,

I wish. The Mullard was NOS and saw its first electron in 2015. I have been deteriorating since '59. The tube will almost certainly outlive me.

Don't be too hard on yourself. We are all in the same boat. The Mullards functions have a vacuum in their favor. We will all float out to sea in a blaze of Viking glory with all our Schiit as an anchor to pull our charred remains to the depths below for some future civilization to wonder about the little glass cylinders littering the ocean floor!:beerchug: Geez Vidar better appear by Friday:L3000:oh wait, it doesn't use tubes!

I briefly had a pair of ELS 57, until I was told to remove them from the house...

Excellent! Reminiscent of the Stiff Records slogan "Reversing into tomorrow" :)

'59 is an exquisite vintage in my opinion. I too was newly minted (or vinted) in '59.

Oh, and @Jason Stoddard - very nice follow up to "obsolete."

Just read the Absolute Sound review of the Yggy they just posted online...

They liked the Schiit out of it...to put it mildly.

I currently have Gumby - anyone had both of these and compared them? If so, how would you characterize the diffs?

Probably can't afford one right now, but one can dream :L3000:

Thanks

I have both.

I recently upgraded my Gungnir to Gumby. Both Y and GM have been left on continously powered up since their arrival. The Yggy has about 2 years of "aging" compared to GM. GM was a big step up in SQ from Gungnir.

Yggy sounds fuller and more articulate than GM. But if it hadn't come first, I can honestly say I could live forever with GM, it's that good.

If you can afford Yggy, by all means drop the bucks and know there may not be any units at any price significantly bettering it. I believe it will win TAS's DAC of the Year and has a real chance of winning Product of the Year.

But judging by my take on Robert Harley's recent TAS review of Yggy, if Gumby had been reviewed instead, he'd have said it is one of the greatest values he has ever heard and why spend any more beyond its price.

I think the main differences are the Yggy has an extra bit, 21 vs 20, and includes the Adapticlock technology to re-clock digital sources.

Yggy has 21 bits of resolution while Gumby has 19...
