Finally received my DAP Oriolus DPR100 and wanted to share as a separate thread, there is some info in the Obscure DAP thread but its based on some Chinese forum commentary and not easy to follow

Will start with the easy part: the device has a great sound and detail. I feel it has a Cayin type sound ( warm) with some of the neutrality of the X1A. The device is pretty powerful as I have found it to have zero problems driving my IEM's like: Zeus, AAW900, UM Martian and U18 ( borrowed) , to certain extent "power" wise seems to match the i5.

The unit is shipped on black box with gold Oriolus logo. It includes the DAP, screen protector, 3.5 mm jumper, charging cable ( Micro USB), case ( prrety good quality), manual and warranty card

DAP is made out of aluminum casing the finsih is black in a non slippery finish, it feel very good in the hand and fits in pocket of jeans, etc.

I made comparisons with my current DAP on deck ( M1, X3, i5 and X1A) for reference and the use the i5 as further reference

Right side includes the "back" button, action wheel, the Reverse/Pause/Play/Forward arrangement

Left side includes the power and gain button

Top side includes the Bal/Unbal ports and the volume wheel ( pretty good and solid feel)

The remaining pictures allow you to visualize the menu structure

Thanks for starting a separate thread, subscribed. Does the side scroll wheel have a click function as well to select a song or a particular menu? . I cant see any button for that.

That is correct the wheel behaves as a multi function element

  • When playing music it's your volume wheel
I think is better implemented than Shangling M1

Thanks. I was under the impression that the wheel on the top of the player is used for volume control. What's it's function?

One thing I will say, I have a Fiio X5 stacked with A5 and use this with my AAW 900 but don't need any amp when using the DP100n pretty powerful

From a musical aspect I get a lot of detail , sound stage seems is a much more expansive than Fiio, X3 and M1. I feel this is closer to the Cayin i5 than the smaller players.

UI is a bit old school but it flows pretty well

No bugs to date, start up is around 3 secs. The first scan of 7000 songs took exactly 47 secs

Will keep testing

Wow, thanks for sharing your impression @darveniza. I like the sound quality of this player when I first tried during CanJam. But dislike its UI, unfortunately. Price is less than DP-X1, but for the sound it's great.

I think when you compare against the Shozy Alien Plus +$400 no EQ, album, etc this looks like a good price. I think the on board component's are prett good. fiio X5 is lower for more but I have to stack an amp with it.

Suppose you cannot have it all
