@ostewart I don't have any felt around my house, I wonder if placing Paper towel directly behind driver and remove black foam would have similar effect you are experiencing

Found the O+E headphones on the xberts site and guess how much it costs?

A whopping $2,699...... The build quality definitely reflects on on the price but the $300 M1060 is starting to looks like an unbelievable value sound quality wise.

Yeah that price is stupid, they are no way near worth that. Only worth what the monoprice are really.

I haven't tested with a lot of materials behind the driver yet, on the front I now have just the beyerdynamic pads and the beyerdynamic foam discs that come with their pads (more open than the felt)

I think I'm going to keep them like this for now

the size and look and even the way the driver is wired up is exactly the same as the monoprice, and monoprice is just a rebrand of some made in china headphones
But are the impedance and sensitivity the same? The first time that O&E hypothesis was mentioned up-thread it was with a link to a Verum Sonus review where they said the specs weren't the same as the M1060: https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/m...planar-headphones.820107/page-9#post-12996816

Look at my photos above compared to this
I can't really see the stator openings in your O&E pictures. For all I know that other post on thread page 9 could be right and it could be this driver in the O&E: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Planar-magnetic-headphone-with-great-bass_60452908630.html

LE:
Oh, I just found the product page, so it is the E800P as mentioned up-thread, and yes, at that price I will immediately agree with anyone who says they sound terrible. :D

Has anyone tried a thin material such as black speaker grill cloth instead of the white paper towel? It would be nice if that gave the same results and then you wouldn't have the white showing through on the headphones. Or perhaps could it be used to cover the paper towel without affecting the sound...

If you're curious on what it looks like when you remove the plastic headband 'stop' from the headband I decided to find out...and well, it's quite interesting:

Use a black paper towel or napkin instead.

Well, somebody on Reddit has already had cracking on their second revision pair..

https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/68dctb/my_m1060_cracked_how_likely_is_this_to_worsen/

I really really wish Monoprice would have just thickened the wood, used better wood or simply gone for some plastics/metals on these cans. Was the biggest deal breaker for me on the last pair.

Also, mine were supposed to be delivered today, appear to have been delayed to Monday or Tuesday. It's not going to matter if the wood cracks though.

5 YEAR WARRANTY

While I understand that warranty is essentially unheard of, I don't particularly like the idea of continuously having to send my headphones in for repair or replacement. I actually want to use them. It's even more of a hassle for people located in other countries.

Some people who bought the first revision experienced wood cracking among other issues within the first week and had to wait over a month to receive their replacements. If the replacements have the same issue, what's next? Another months wait? When do people actually get to use these things.

That's true, and I'm lucky that my pair is perfectly fine. Remember that people are more likely to post when they have an issue versus when everything is just fine.

I'm not saying you shouldn't worry. If you're not comfortable possibly (unlikely) getting a defective pair, then wait until all issues are resolved.
