How many people never read the marketplace stickies?

Sorry dude, but you have done the same thing in the past...

I personally don't have a problem with it. I look through everything I'm interested in buying and just skip over the stuff I don't want anyway so I really don't see what the issue is. I get more annoyed by people who don't update whether or not their item has been sold.

Reminds me of that guy (can't remember who) who posted a rant saying he didn't like watching anime or something...

Some poor guy recently had his HD650 sale thread ruined by a bunch of thread crappers.

I got into a bad habit of thread crapping in FS posts that appear to me to be obvious scams. Then I told myself that I am not the Head-Fi Marketplace police, and that if it is so obviously a scam to me it probably will appear that way to others. And if it doesn't, well, bummer for whoever got scammed.

If someone is selling a used item at a price above current market value, its not a bad idea to shoot them a quick PM letting them know. More polite then crapping in their thread with an amazon link, and it gives them knowledge that might help expediate their sale.

Since we're on this subject, is the oft seen "YGPM" considered a bump? It doesn't really add anything to the thread, and if you've already sent the seller a PM anyway, what's the point of telling them in the thread?

I've done this before, of course, because I thought it was just something you do in the FS forum. But the more I think about it, the less sense it makes.

I've done that a few times before, for me it's sort of like marking my territory on an item I've "claimed". Now I just send a ninja fast PM soon after the ad goes up if it's something I want and don't even bother in the thread.

That's a great idea. I used to open the ad and pee on the screen.

I think those are incredibly minor compared to what others do; plus, those thread bumps had a purpose other than mindless thread bumps that others do:

1: IC -> FS
2: IC -> FS; allow non-CONUS buyers; cleared PM box
3: Cleared PM box; price drop
4: IC -> FS; allow non-CONUS buyers
5: The only one I admit to making a bad move, and even then I don't think it was too bad. I apologize for that one.

What I'm talking about is people that post every day in their thread with the only intention of bumping their thread (Usually just say "bump" in their entire post). I wouldn't specifically mention IC -> FS with another post if we were able to edit the displayed thread title (So I could just change IC -> FS there).

It took me several looks at the thread title to figure out what "marketplace stickies" meant. Answer: no, never. Do we need to?

Basic forum rule: Read the stickies before posting.

Nice attitude. Ever hear of common courtesy? Do you really think we want to be "handing out warnings and bans" over such trivial matters? Think that would help us to win friends and influence people?

I'm curious. Do we come across as a bunch of Barney Fife types? I mean, really, do you think we get a kick out of warning and banning people. Would you shoplift if you thought you could get away with it? Show some maturity and use a little judgment!

Sorry if that came across as a personal attack. It really wasn't intended to be because this is nothing in the scheme of things. I don't have any reason to think badly of you, but your "we do it because..." statement is so 'matter of fact', it leads me to believe that you really believe what you're saying. Essentially, you're saying that it's our fault (as moderators) because we're not good babysitter?

Sometimes the only play is to drop back 10 yards and punt.

The Amazon link benefits the buyer, not just the seller. Even if they find a buyer willing to pay more used than they could get it for new doesn't make it right.

So...moderators, what's the final ruling on this? Is ignoring the sticky and bumping your thread everyday perfectly fine?
