I have the cable. Indeed the microphonics are unbearable, the cable is MUCH too stiff, pulling the IEM's out of my ears. From a couple of test songs I'm not able to clearly differentiate the SQ change over the stock unbalanced cable. The stereo may be a little more spacious, airy, but that is what I'm expecting so...hard to say without a true A/B/X test

The "balanced" feature of this circuit is similar to the balanced circuits in professional gear such as amps, eq's and processors as well as those in high-end home audio gear such as amps and pre-amps. In a simple explanation, here are three circuits: signal, ground and shield. All this cable does is combine the shield and ground or it splits the ground from your head phones into two parallel circuits (shield and ground) both with the same signal since they are wired parallel. In other words, there are NO benefits over just plugging the ear phones into the standard un-balanced 3.5mm jack. Any improvements or enhancements (other than possibly rejecting some stray RF interference), are imagined.

Without getting into the technical weeds, which I'm in no position to do I take exception to your idea. What is music listening if not partly imagined? If I buy a $100 cable and the music sounds better I have won, technical details don't matter it's only what I hear that counts. Your mileage may vary.

This is all true as far as it goes, but sometimes there is more to it. The circuitry in the amp is often quite different inside the amp for getting balanced or SE out. In many cases the balanced output does have twice the voltage available versus the SE output as well. This is not true with the X5 III however. They have done some clever design to keep the power output equivalent on the balanced out versus SE. Probably to keep power dissipation and battery use under control. It is conceivable that this circuitry could influence the sound somewhat.

All that having been said, personally I have not noticed huge differences in sound using SE versus balanced for "output", unless the headphones were just not getting enough power in SE mode.

As to MinnieOne's statement. It is true, but I often wonder if the improvements are real versus imagined. Either way it works, but if a volume matched double blind test was done, I think the differences may well be undetectable. I have done some testing and for me this is a fact.

Bottom line, do whatever makes you happy, but be aware the brain is a powerful thing and expectation bias is real and quite well documented.

Actually it's audio industry that wins. They are the ones who can tell people who aren't into Electrical Engineering or people who are interested in Sound Science who do ABX testing with volume matching to spend hundreds to thousands of dollar for a single cable. As that one cable may have less resistance and impedance it can sound louder. Some listeners believe louder is better.

In fact, it is an accepted fact that humans in general do perceive louder to be "better". Very few do true volume matching when doing comparisons.
Most certainly, the bottom line is musical enjoyment. If one feels good about spending money for something then all is good. OTH from a rational perspective, it is good to understand some of the true reasons behind this.

Probably enough on this, at least from me. It is one of those subjects that never leads to agreement. But the balanced/unbalanced functionality subject is a matter of facts.

Hi All

I'm using Fidue A83 IEM's with my X5iii. I've tried the IE800, Fidue Sirius A91 and Shure SE846 with a Questyle QP1R. Can anyone offer their experience on what they would sound like on the warmer X5iii?

I'm also open to other suggestions as well. I live in Jersey, a small island between England and France with no dealers, so have to narrow my choices down by others opinions and website reviews.

Thanks in advance.

Darren

another issue i just met, not sure if its isolated case,

if I'm playing an album starting with the word Ja, at the end of the album track i was expecting it to go to Jb, but today while playing, it jumped from Ja to HD, which in a sense it's not playing in a sequence but would jump to some random album and keep playing

Out of curiosity did you check the filenames on the X5 to see if they are alpha as it shows in the player?

@FiiO
Can the setting "gear" wheel be there on the playing screen?

I like some of viper effects depending on genre i am listening to. And worse is if you went via , folder view, artist, album, disc no, song. you have to go back 4-5 times to reach to settings.

Dear friend,

I will report to our product manager and consider about that. You can return to the homepage by pressing the top left music icon:notes: in now playing interface to shorten the times of reaching setting menu.

Best regards

Does the X5iii have airplane mode? It seems like wifi is killing the battery even though its off.
Dear friend,

You can find the airplane mode by using the searching function in setting menu if you need.

Best regards

Hi, I received mine yesterday and am enjoying the sound coming out of the device, but this is something I feel every time I turn the volume wheel. I was wondering if this is normal as many people say the volume wheel feels good but mine is loose on one side and gets stiff on the other side as I rotate.

I feel like the wheel is located off centre or something.

If the resistance I feel is supposed to be constant throughout the rotation I probably will get a replacement from Amazon so please let me know how you guys think.

Thank you in advance

Dear friend,

Seems a replacement is needed. The rotating is not smooth, right? Sorry for bringing inconvenience to you.

Best regards

Dear friend,

The play mode you choose is not shuffle mode, right? The issue will happen everytime or sometimes?

Best regards
