The Stax Thread III
https://staxaudio.com/headpad/stax-sr-007mk2-headpad Looks like they only have the mk2 - I'm probably ok with the lack of color coordination, but are they otherwise compatible with the mk1?- di_andrei

I'm looking to replace the head pad / head band on my SR-007 (mark 1), the band is getting a little loose and the pad has seen better days. :) Has anyone seen any for sale recently?- di_andrei

The Entry Level Stax Thread
Before spending any additional $$ what you need to do is find a way to try out the more expensive models - the difference in quality is rather small in my opinion - many disagree - but I think most agree that there is very serious decline in performance per $ above the 407 range.- di_andrei

The Stax Thread III
That's my experience as well, as a former "square" and current "round" user. My decision to get a 007 probably had more to do with fit and ergonomics than it had to do with my perception of better sound quality compared to the 407/507. To me, the differences are very small. But the 009 fits my...- di_andrei

The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread
Quick question on SR-L700 comfort - are the cups identical / very similar to the 507? The 507's were never very comfortable for me, my ear had too much contact with the earcups - the 007/009s are a much better fit for me. Is the "depth" of the ear pad similar to the 507?- di_andrei

Oh my - haven't been here in a few months and there's new Stax products! Went to the Stax website and looked through the brochures, can't quite figure out where the new products fit in. The SRM-353X - is it a 323S replacement? The 323 appears to still be available. Is the 353X better...- di_andrei

Great thread Dan, si salutari din Singapore. :) I have to echo the suggestion of a previous poster - give Stax a try if you have the chance and then of course, blog about it - we want to hear your impressions. Reading your thread made me want to look around for upgrades as well - but...- di_andrei

Quote: I personally think that the 407 and 323s will give you a pretty good idea about what stax can do for you, and it's also much better value for money than any of the other current models. If you get these used you won't lose more than shipping if you decide they are not for you...- di_andrei

I wasn't going to do anything crazy (like using a vacuum) - but I tried playing them at a louder volume for a few minutes and for now the squeal has gone away - if it was dust, perhaps it has dropped off the...- di_andrei

Trouble in paradise. My SR-007's (Mk1) have developed an intermittent problem, on the right channel there is an occasional, low volume, high pitched sound, sounds a little like capacitor squeal, or air being forced through a small hole in a balloon. This is not volume-dependent (same noise...- di_andrei

Is it possible to change the metal piece that holds the 007 earpads in? It feels like mine have lost some tension and the earcups are too close to the ear for comfort. Oh, and sign me up for one of those "STAX mafia" t-shirts. :)- di_andrei

Quote: My experience is completely different, I find the SR-009 almost perfect in terms of comfort, with the SR-007 pretty far behind. Weight is not an issue for me, it's just grip and ear contact, there's almost none on the 009 and quite a lot on the 007. Just curious, are you talking...- di_andrei

I'm in Tokyo for a couple of days this week and would like to pick up a pair of 407's. Can anyone recommend a shop? I am also considering used. I believe Yodobashi has them in stock but they are just about the most expensive option in town - let me know if you know of a better price. Thanks.- di_andrei
