Yesterday I had a chance to try the HPA-1 at the Florida Audio Expo. While I'm not a headphone guy, the sounds was great with no downfalls that I heard or the measurements suggest. For $899, it's a no brainer if cans are your thing. The unit is clean, and there was a clear cover on one HPA-1...

Yes, it down sampling seems counterproductive to me. I want to play DSD files not change them! There are many very good pre/dacs with remote that can play them so that's the route I'll go. I was really wanting this but it's a no go for my reason. Oh well.

I was set to purchase this unit until I read the owners manual. You can't use the volume control and it still play DSD files.

Why is this the case?

Can anyone help me on finding the portion where Jason writes about not releasing product details until the product is complete?

Well, I was so damn impressed with my Silver AVC/Tubestage that instead of upgrading to the DHT I just decided to purchase another LIO but this time with the DHT.  How does it sound?  F'n amazing!  It does EVERYTHING right.  It's simply that good.

I'm a big one!  However, at $800 more it's a question of how good they are compared to the TH-900.  I'd hope the TH-900 is "better" but if the TH-X00 is 90% of the TH-900 I know which direction I'd go.  ;-)

So I really like the TH-900's when I heard them.  However, the TH-X00 is intriguing to me.  Do they really compare to the TH-900's?  I'm currently using the MrSpeakers Alpha Dogs.  

Should make the next if/when there is one.
