Low Budget Vinyl Source
That's great info, Memepool, thanks. As I've got my Pioneer PL-200x working now I'll keep it on the back burner. All I need to do now is find the correct connectors for my Mordaunt Short MS40s...- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
There's a bit of a swooshing sound before any music kicks in and a bit of distortion. I've played it with some more vinyl now and it sounds ok. The 1st record I pulled may have been a freak ;-) I've had a word with a sound engineer friend of mine and he's going to come over next week and set...- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
A miracle has happened! I was taking the headshell off to get some shots of the wires etc when it occured to me to play around with the stylus a bit as hciman suggested. Not expecting much I put it back together and we now have stereophonic sound! Hurray! So... I have sound, but it's not...- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
I could try. Although I've no experience with tables, I do recognise a dodgy circuit and these wires and connections all look really good and strong to me. I'll have a look, but it will be over the next few days as I have to replace my hard drive today. Thanks again- The23rdman

Low Budget Vinyl Source
Socrates: Yes, I've already had that problem with my Pioneer PL-200x getting damaged in transit. Will always buy local now. Steve: Must be a UK term! Duff = bad :-)- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
*Hides head in shame* I had the leads in the wrong way. OK, so we're back to square one. Looks like I'll have to get someone to look at it cos I don't have the tools to take it apart. Thanks for all your help, guys.- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
Unfortunately not. It's a cheap nasty plastic Sony job that came with my sisters stereo. I don't know anyone else with a turntable :-(- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
No, I couldn't swap the wires over as they were too tight. Yes, I had sound in the right channel before. Weird, eh?- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
hciman, It's an M75EJ stylus :-) Ok, I've taken the cart off and had a go at pulling the wires, but they're on pretty tight and I don't have the tools to do a decent job without causing damage. So... I replaced the stylus and now I have sound in the left channel but not the right. What...- The23rdman

Low Budget Vinyl Source
That's a fair comment, Socrates, but for now I'm just open to the idea. I'll see what's about on ebay, but didn't want to keep bugging people with "Is this any good?" posts if I could have a more definitive idea of what to avoid.- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
That's great info, thank you. I'll check all of those things. Are there any good manuals etc online so I can be sure I'm testing the correct wires? I'm a complete newbie.- The23rdman

Low Budget Vinyl Source
Memepool : You say you've left obvious brands such as Technics, Dual etc of the list cos they don't make many bad decks. Does this go right across the board and ages? I'd like to look at these manufactures too, but don't want to by one of the rare duffers. Would it be possible to list the...- The23rdman

Problem with Pioneer PL-200x
Hi Everyone This is my first post here, but I've been lurking for a while all the way from the UK. I've recently made a tentative dip into the vinyl world again by following advice on the low budget vinyl thread here and buying a Pioneer PL-200x with Shure M75EJ type 2 cartridge from eBay...- The23rdman
