Sensaphonics custom molds for E500/E530?
A call for Head-fi collective wisdom: I am deciding whether to get Sensaphonics custom molds for my Shure E500s. Like a good head-fier should, I have searched head-fi for relevant threads. Based on what I've read, I have definitively ruled out the Westone UM56 (stem breakage) and upgrading to...- Jeff E

iPod to car head unit in New Zealand
I am packing for a family vacation in which we are going to be spending a good deal of time tooling around the South Island in a rented Toyota Camry. I am bringing a 4th gen iPod and, as the post's title suggests, would like to play the iPod through the car's audio system. I have no idea whether...- Jeff E

Recommend Internet radio stations?
For those head-fiers in the US, don't forget to vote today. What does that have to do with the this thread's title? I just turned on one of my favorite Internet radio stations, WNCW, only to smile when I heard Ella Fitzgerald singing Vote For Mister Rhythm. I started thinking about how much...- Jeff E

Yet another headphones-can-damage-hearing study
This study further contributes to the perception that headphone listening is risky. Quibble: classifying music listening as loud when @ 80% of volume seems fairly naive. But then, how else to do a survey on this topic?- Jeff E

Somebody got a great deal!
I was sitting here listening to Dr. John's N'Awlinz on my "new" Sony CD3000 and marveling at their synergy with with the Portal Panache when coincidentally, I spotted this completed deal on the 'goN. Whoa! I hope it was a head-fier that got this bargain.- Jeff E

iTunes on the Mac crashes
I used the updater to "upgrade" to iTunes 6.0.4 along with a couple of iPod updates. When I finished, iTunes crashed whenever I played a music file or a radio stream. You can access the info on files, just not play them. Repaired permissions, deleted preference files, reinstalled iTunes...still...- Jeff E

When you suspect a scammer in a "for sale" forum
what do you do? I e-mailed head-fi this: MOD EDIT: Example of possibly suspicious For Sale thread deleted. Is there any thing else I should be doing? I am concerned that the no thread crapping rule allows too much time for buyers to be duped. I guess the Protect Yourself Against...- Jeff E

Meta42 repair?
I have a (nicely upgraded) Headsave transit meta42 that is acting up. It has started to make background "swooshing" sounds. Outdoors system based on a sonic t-amp
One of my daughters is in a group that performs to music outdoors. Sometimes the troupe uses a $50 Sony boombox for sound. Here. The usual disclaimers apply, e.g. I am not affiliated... With a three year warranty it cost me $316 shipped to NC. I am still burning it in. It offers HDCD capability and seems quite sturdy with a quiet transport. From what I have read, this model (whether labeled MH, Shanling)...- Jeff E

an old CAL ICON cdp for my bedroom?
I have read good things about the now defunct California Audio Laboratories line of CD players and DACs. I can get a vintage CAL ICON (mark 1) cd player for $125. Would this be a reasonable choice for a secondary system (Senn HD595 and Perreaux amp)? I want to keep the cost in this range.- Jeff E
