Are these Sennheiser IE 500 Pro Fake?
I bought these on Amazon and they just arrived today. The IEMs feel cheap. The housing is not the frosted clear I see on the website but a clear plastic. The lettering doesn’t seem sharp and the sound quality is so so. I used to own Shure IEMs a long time ago and you can see the drivers inside...- GlorytheWiz825

My 1500th Post
This is officially my 1500th posts. It's been quite a journey for me here at Headfi. I remember first starting out and seeing some Supremus members with 1500+ post and I thought these people were nuts. I also remember seeing Jahn's post count at 18000+ and thought he was insane. :P Well, after a...- GlorytheWiz825

CMOY battery question
Hi guys, What is the advantage of having the CMOY powered by two 9V battery in series (18V total) versus a single 9V battery? The only advantage I can think of is having power in the unit for a longer period of time. Are there any other differences?- GlorytheWiz825

Does anyone know where to get K701 replacements pads in Canada for a fair price? I seem to have trouble locating these. The only source I found online is ALO Audio, which has it for $38 + $15 shipping (all USD). That's ~$60 CDN dollars for earpads. :/ Thanks for the help!- GlorytheWiz825

$20 USD dollars for HD600 grills fair?
I just called up Sennheiser Canada and got a price quote of $4.67 CDN for each grill and a shipping cost of $11.50 CDN. So that's around $21 CDN + 14% tax which comes out to be around $20 USD. I don't even know why they charged me tax since I'm buying from Ontario and they are located in Quebec...- GlorytheWiz825

Question regarding CMOY case work
Hi, I'm building a CMOY out of an Altoid tin. I'm not sure on how I'm supposed to do the case work. Do I need a drilling tool or can I simply burn a hole in the altoid tin with my soldering iron? Thanks for all who respond.- GlorytheWiz825

A question regarding Op-amp for Tangent CMOY
Hi guys, I have just finished soldering the op-amp to my board and was trying to hook up the +V and -V terminals when I got confused. According to Tangent's tutorial, the +V is located pin 8. However, according to my circuit book, pin 8 is not used and +V is located at pin 7. So where do I...- GlorytheWiz825

Newbie question regarding CMOY
I'm new at DIY and electronics in general. I was looking at the schematic from tangentsoft and figured out the voltage gain is Vo = (R3+R4)/R3*Vin. So I know what the resistors are for. Now I have no idea what the capacitors are there for. Under DC conditions, aren't capacitors open circuits? So...- GlorytheWiz825

I burned myself with a soldering iron
Well, in my attempt to start DIY projects, I was practicing soldering wires together and ended up burning myself. I held the metal part of the gun instead of the insulated part. How smart. -_-; Now I've got these two big water bubbles forming on my hands. Guess I'll pop them tomorrow morning...- GlorytheWiz825

Being a headfi-er outside the US
Hmmm, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has felt annoyed at the discrimination of trying to buy headphones outside the USA. For example, I just saw a thread where the HD580s were going for $125 USD on Amazon.com. I was very excited but not without pessimism. I proceeded to order and check out...- GlorytheWiz825

High impedance vs low impedance
Hi guys, Okay, I'm somewhat confused on how impedance works in a pair of headphones. How does impedance help the sound quality for a pair of headphones? For example, a HD650 with its 600 ohm impedance takes a lot of voltage to drive, and thus we need to crank up the volume control knob on our...- GlorytheWiz825
