    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

That's because this is a binaural recording. Basically two earshaped mics on an average sized mannequin's head. It's made to mimick human hearing, you don't need vss for that as it will obviously throw it off. Vss tries to reproduce binaural audio with algorithms btw. It takes multi channel...

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Games obviously don't provide any "HD" audio. Movies, well, if you have what it takes to play movies with dolby atmos true HD you're cetrainly not watching them on your computer monitor with a pair of cans through the GSX and a virtualizer (besides, you'll gain nothing if you manage to get your...

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Aside from "hd" audio gimmicky services, nothing today goes higher than 16b@48khz, especially games. You're not going to get better audio quality by upsampling to 192khz anyways in the first place.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

It does that when you're trying to set the output to 7.1 but your settings are higher than 16b@44.1

I can't even get past 50% without my ears bleeding (on a gsp 600 + gsx 1000 that is), no distortion there. But you sure as hell have to be deaf or nearly there if you're using them at full blast.

The Nameless Guide To PC Gaming Audio (with binaural headphone surround sound)

There is no "atmos information" to decode, since there are no games that supply it in the first place (but movies do), no, not even Overwatch. What dolby atmos for headphones is supposed to do is to take whatever surround information is available to it and turn it into HRTF stereo, which it...

The Nameless Guide To PC Gaming Audio (with binaural headphone surround sound)

It was supposed to but it did not work as intended, it was seen as 2.0 by games and therefore they defaulted to stereo, which is not the case now (confirmed with titanfall 2 and nier automata which show your audio setup and never worked with DA and WS before). It worked with dolby atmos...

The Nameless Guide To PC Gaming Audio (with binaural headphone surround sound)

You might need to have the latest windows 10 version for that.

The Nameless Guide To PC Gaming Audio (with binaural headphone surround sound)

Yup, tested it in destiny 2 and got actual virtual surround instead of echoey stereo. Also there is no more checkbox in the settings to "force" surround (which did not work in the first place). Windows sonic seems to work now too, but it gives a narrower soundstage and generates a lot more...

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

BFV has an inbuilt VSS processing that sounds nice imho.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Are you certain you're using the correct option in the sound panel? Make sure you're NOT using the "headset earphone".

The Nameless Guide To PC Gaming Audio (with binaural headphone surround sound)

Of course people are buying the gsx for the surround and not for its musical qualities. Equalizer apo looks nice on paper but it's a lagfest when it comes to latency.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

The sidetone generates less noise and maybe it's me but i think the rear channels are a tad clearer.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Ooooh shiny, Updated without issues, there's no more noise when sidetone is activated.

    Yeah, i remain unconvinced.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Sooooo, what about those mobius headphones and their dubious head tracking feature?

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

The gsx is not a musical DAC, the whole selling point being its virtual 7.1 for gaming. It really depends on how you plan on using it.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

On my rig windows just randomly decides to set it to 24b/stereo after a couple of reboots. Also if i check the configuration and hit cancel instead of next, next, next.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Welp, another windows update that breaks the gsx... Now it's telling me 7.1 is not supported by the device. We need some real drivers from sennheiser.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

They are. Anyways, i've tried waves nx, not convinced, sounds too tinny to my ears and it's a software solution, which is great because you can use it with whatever dac + amp combination you want, not a fan of the added latency though. To my ears the GSX gives the most natural sound while...

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Wait wait wait wait, are they playing Hellblade with HRTF and head tracking? LoL
  22. Glasofruix

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

It does, to a lesser degree than in VR but it does. And head tracking would not bring anything to the table for the reasons i've already explained.
  23. Glasofruix

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

It is, that's why hrtf works. And why head tracking is a bad idea. Your brain actually thinks it's inside the game based on what your eyes and ears feed it. That's why some people get nausea, the inner ear is not as easy to fool.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 / 1200 Impressions

Sigh.... When the soundstage is moving with your head, as with plain GSX and a pair of headphones, the sound sources you hear on your LEFT will be exactly on your character's left, no matter where you are physically looking at, because again, it doesn't matter. What matters is your character's...
