All import duties etc. are handled by amazon, so no extra taxes etc. need to be paid.

Yes, but you can still order from Amazon.com   I did, total cost with pre-paid import duties was ~£140, took 4 days for delivery. No point paying so much from european vendors.

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC

I have to say that is one pretty bit of kit.

The Beyerdynamic Tesla DT 1350 Impressions thread

So I just got a pair of these for nearly 1/2 the usual UK price on a whim, was very willing to resell if I didn't like...   Good initial impressions. Had them on my ear for ~2.5 hours, no discomfort, maybe I am just tolerant. Most obvious thing at the moment is the bass, it does indeed go low...

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC

I suggest that you read a beginners guide to hifi before buying anything if you are unsure of some of the basics! A DAC is needed for every form of digital audio, mp3 players have them, £50k cd players have them. It's just some are built in, some are external. It is just the part of the...

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC

Well it depends on your overall setup, DACs do sound different, but how different and in what way very much depends on the individual DACs.  I have no idea if the internal dac on the sony is good or not, but whichever it is there is no way of upgrading, e.g. if you only wanted to use the...

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC

No... I can't think why a digital out on a DAC would matter much... You would just replace the DAC.   I mean the network player... the HAP-S1 - it has no digital output so if you get one you are stuck using its internal DAC unless you replace the whole unit.    (It has 2 digital...

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC

Just so you know... I would be slightly wary of the HAP-S1, it lacks a digital out, and so has very limited options if you want to get a better DAC etc. in future. I was thinking of getting this until I noticed this lack... Went for a Cyrus Streamline2 instead.

    New Beyer DT1350

Well, I've ordered a pair after finding a deal I couldn't refuse... Here's hoping they're the facelift version...    In any case, I'll see how their pair with the Tera Player

So I have inserted the new caps...    And, whilst I obviously can't A/B, I was feeling very cynical that I would be able to hear any difference... There definitely is a reasonably sized improvement - Bass is certainly improved, and I'm fairly sure that the higher end is a tad clearer. Of...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Hmm, I purchased mine from an authorised UK dealer last year (January), and the warranty in the Sennheiser confirmation email is only for 2 years.  Maybe this is a new thing.    P.s. Authorised dealers here only advertise for the MSRP, however if you call them up they will usually knock...

So, I have a quick question now I have the capacitors (delivered rather quickly!)...   I have the Jensen ones and they suggest placing them so that the outer foil is closest to the grounded side of the circuit (the output stage?) and the inner foil is closest to the positive side - I think...

They certainly are a pair of phones that keep surprising with each upgrade. I am finding I don't want to upgrade, but I also want to see how far I can push them, as the saying goes 'welcome to head-fi, sorry for your wallet'.

Those are... a tad expensive... I'm having to sell my old DAC to fund this anyways!

I went for the aluminum cans as those were the cheapest, and the ones offered by icon. I didn't want to spend £160+ on caps!

Yes, I have had a look and there is room, I've gone and ordered the required stuff to discharge old caps (and a soldering iron!). Once everything is ready to go I'll start taking pics to log it as it'll be my first DIY. I went for the Jenson caps - found a site selling them for about 1/2 what...

Hmm maybe I should give that a try then... which caps are the ones that need replacing? (if you have a pic that'd be awesome).

Well I'm perfectly happy with my non-upgraded caps but I have upgraded the tubes (matched pair full music 6SN7, gold lion 12ax7). I would imagine the amp would be rather expensive if you upgraded it that much.

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Sennheiser are fairly strict about advertised prices so it's unlikely any retailer will be advertising anything other than full MSRP. What the majority of retailers will do, in my experience, however is offer a discount if you call them up and ask. Just call around a few until you find...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I'm not surprised... Cambridge Audio stuff all tends to be a touch on the bright, occasionally sibilant side (at least in my fairly extensive experience with it). It usually improves a little with burn-in, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a DAC...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

I would agree the soundstage is nothing like reality... Sometimes it even sounds, dare I say it, a bit too separated, a bit weird.    I still love my HD800s though, to the extent of having no interest in investing in new headphones for a very, very long time.

ACS T1 Custom Review and impressions thread!

Owch, it's pretty worrying to be hearing all these horror stories.    Mine are still working perfectly after ~10 months, but I'm only using them 2-3 times a week at the moment.    The only problems I had were fit in one ear, and it was sorted pretty damn quickly, but I am based in the UK. ...

Shoud I Buy From This Guy?

From my experience, I have sold 5 things to people all with <100 post count, most <20, and I think all had 0 feedback at the time.  All 5 sales went well.    Maybe I was lucky, maybe not.
