Maybe you'd care to read my my review of the 558? :)

    Sennheiser HD599 - first impressions.

Not sure where the idea that there's two different sounding versions of these even comes from? As far as I know there is nothing to back this up except someone just saying it. The ivory and black versions are supposed to sound the same as well. But I think these are nice headphones, very cool...

Review by 'Nirvana Woman' on item 'Sennheiser HD 558'

The HD558 is one of those headphones that even when you're not specifically listening to music, some soundtrack might randomly come up in a show or whatever and you catch yourself thinking gosh that sounds so nice. And that is not something that goes without saying, even with expensive...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Yeah, I have a number of amps in my house. I also have a big vintage Marantz amp but none of them are useful for the Fidelios. If you have a decent computer output I would really recommend that, or if you like to use your phone it should also go very well. :headphones:

Review by 'Nirvana Woman' on item 'Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80 Closed Studio Headphones'

I'll start with a strong statement: these might be a candidate for best headphone ever made. They have so much to offer it's pretty wild. Probably the best bass I've heard on any headphone. I don't doubt that there's thousand dollar flagships out there that do even better, but in an objective...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

But why you need an amp? I just run my X1 and X2 from the PC motherboard, sounds great.

Sennheiser HD5699 'hybrid' (an HD560S with HD599 drivers)

Cool video, that's the first time I've had diffuse field explained to me. So basically any headphone with exceptional timbre you could assume is a diffuse field design? Those guys are serious headphone nerds lol, love it. I think Sennheiser has been really exciting in the last five years, it...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Yeah, still two more weeks. I have seriously considered it and honestly am considering the unthinkable more and more  the money might be better spent on trying out an HD660S2 when they drop in price a bit, idk! I was just playing Mass Effect 3 and when I fire the black widow on my...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

That's how I'm feeling too at the moment. I've owned the HD560S for two weeks now and I'm just not getting "it". I've read from a number of people that these need time to grow on you, so I'm hoping that may still happen for me as well. As it stands I find the 58X's tuning much more to my liking...

When do you go from 'enthusiast' or collector to 'hoarder'

I have about five or six, half of them (dt990, dt770, Fidelio X2) I don't really use anymore but I'm not wanting to sell them either. The need just isn't that great and even if i sell them five years from now the value will probably still be about the same. I wouldn't consider myself a hoarder...

Review by 'Nirvana Woman' on item 'Sennheiser HD 560S'

In this review I'll be mainly comparing the 560S to the DT770. I think it's a good comparison for two reasons, first being they both cost about the same and aim for an analytical, balanced sound. The HD560S seems almost designed from the start to compete with Beyerdynamic's offerings like the...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Maybe you made a promise that you don't want to keep... It happens, just be honest and tell them. And a lesson learned I guess.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

They're a bit too heavy in the treble for me, but I think the subbass, midbass, lower and upper midrange are very well balanced. So I think they're a pretty good shot at neutrality. But what really sounds neutral still depends on each individual, not on the harman curve. Like, if you think the...

Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

I'd say it depends how long you like to use them for. If your sessions are only like one to two hours, the stock pads are really good for that. Beyond that though, I did find they started to annoy my ears, they got slightly sweaty and irritated parts of my earlobes. But it's very personal, I...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I think it's entirely fine if people like to buy expensive amps for the HD650, as long as it's their money. I just wish people didn't believe so commonly that you cannot enjoy them with basic decent gear. I've heard the HD650 with many different amps including tube amps, an integrated and a...

Review by 'Nirvana Woman' on item 'Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee'

On my continuous quest to find a headphone that can finally dethrone the Fidelio X1 that I've mained for the last nine years, I've stumbled upon the Jubilee 58x. I've heard and owned a lot of Sennheiser headphones, including the HD650 and HD600. I think there are great things about them, but...

    Shure SRH1540 Review

Thanks :) And in terms of price, with headphones like Fidelio X2 and Jubilee 58x available for 150 dollars, do you think in all honestly the Shure is worth its retail price? I'm talking over 400 euros here.

    Shure SRH1540 Review

I wish someone can do a comparison of the 1540 and the DT770 80 ohm. I think I'd like the Shure but I've read some people say they can be a bit fatiguing at times. I own the DT770 and really like them, they're not fatiguing for me personally, the bass is immensely enjoyable too.

    Most Impressively Bad/Disappointing Headphone(s) You've Tried

There's two. First the HD650, I just couldn't with those. Reference grade headphones but so claustrophobic, so shouty, such poor bass response. I got them because I was looking for an upgrade to my HD598 and though I could notice the improved resolution I didn't like anything else about them...
