Thoughts on a bunch of DACs (and why delta-sigma kinda sucks, just to get you to think about stuff)
Its fine, I've been trying to confirm the same thing myself although I haven't had the time to do a proper side by side comparison or abx yet. Do you think the modi improved any by adding the wyred?- applehead

Thoughts on a bunch of DACs (and why delta-sigma kinda sucks, just to get you to think about stuff)
The USB input of the DC-1 isn't galvanically isolated so adding something like a Schiit Wyrd might help improve the sound quality a bit more. I've tried using a jkspdif mk3 converter and going through coax, and also inserting an Olimex usb isolator for the usb input. Both changed the sound a...- applehead

Thoughts on a bunch of DACs (and why delta-sigma kinda sucks, just to get you to think about stuff)
Just a minor correction, Emotiva DACs (the XDA and DC series) used the AD1955 chip. DC-1 has two of them.- applehead

AKG K812 HEADPHONES REVIEW Serial No 001106
The 10db dynamic range chart seems to be deliberately misleading given the standards set by other measurement sites. Anyone who's listened to multiple HD800s in the past would know that they've never had that much perceived production variance. The 10db chart serves no useful purpose because it...- applehead

Nad D Range
I was able to audition the D1050 at length today, and also compare it with a dacport LX (both through usb). I used PSB Imagine T2 speakers, and a NAD C356 integrated. My impressions were that they were quite close to each other in performance in terms of detail in the mids and highs. The...- applehead

Audio-Technica Announces SonicFuel Earbud/Canalphone Hybrids: ATH-CHX5 and CHX7
A bit hollow and a little fuzzy, but nothing too bad; still very listenable. Not recessed. I'm guessing it's because of the empty space between the grills and the sound bore of the silicone tips (they can't be worn without the tips). If I had to guess why AT tuned them that way, it was...- applehead

Audio-Technica Announces SonicFuel Earbud/Canalphone Hybrids: ATH-CHX5 and CHX7
Got the ATH-CHX7iS at Yodobashi Osaka about a week ago since I was looking for something to use while running. I was a little surprised at their size. Here's me wearing them: http://imgur.com/94oRMIx In terms of the sound signature, it's on the warm side but not overly so. There's roll off...- applehead

Where does the Bifrost uber with Gen 2 usb fit into the list? I've seen you mention it before and it always seemed to be in a good light given the price.- applehead

Sennheiser HD360 Pro = PX360?
Maybe extreme channel separation was the wrong word to describe it. Do you know how with some IEMs, you have that left blob or sound, right blob and centre image as if they're not connected that well compared to say HD800 imaging? The stock K701 has a little bit of this as well. It's a bit...- applehead

Sennheiser HD360 Pro = PX360?
donunus auditioned my HD360, but my impressions on them are quite different from his. Mine are generally in line with what MadMax has written so far. I think they're fantastic value for the price I got them for (around $80 at a Best Buy), and in terms of quality they're more in line with the...- applehead

AIAIAI TMA-1
Would any of you guys know if The TMA1's were retuned slightly in the past few months? I just got a replacement pair after the right driver of my 1.5 year pair stopped working. I'm also using the same set of pads. Anyway, I noticed that the new TMA1 has significantly more treble sparkle which...- applehead

Earsonics SM64: The Impressions Thread
Thanks for the responses. Regarding the SM64 in general, it seems that deep insertion is required to get the designed sound. What do you guys think of this link? http://rinchoi.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-deep-do-you-insert-you-er4.html The highs seems to have been boosted when using the...- applehead

Earsonics SM64: The Impressions Thread
Random question: has anyone noticed a significant change from swapping tips? The SM64 sounded a little too warm for my tastes with the stock tips and the complys, but when I tried them with Shure olives there was a pretty big difference in treble response. Right now they sound pretty neutral...- applehead

Earsonics SM64: The Impressions Thread
Thanks for the explanation. I'm pretty suspicious of the method the reviewer used as well, so I took a look at some of the other earbuds they reviewed. The UE700 measurements posted don't make any sense. It also seems like they used some sort of compensation already, but the bass FR doesn't make...- applehead

Earsonics SM64: The Impressions Thread
I think you can find a headphone (IEM) you're familiar with among those already reviewed and then use that as a general reference point compared to say Purrin or Tyll's graphs though? In any case, the FR seems to generally match my listening impressions except for the bass, I don't think its...- applehead

Dirac for Apple Earbuds
I'm listening to the Dirac app with earpods now, it sounds pretty good. Compared to the stock player, the mids are boosted quite a lot, with the highs having a slight boost and the bass remaining the same. Subjectively, the vocals on most songs just seems to be a lot clearer. In stock form the...- applehead

Is it true that modded T50RP's (specifically LFF's Paradox mod) is comparable to high end headphones such as the LCD2?
Bumping this topic to give subjective impressions on the Paradox I've had for about a week now. I was the one that ordered the first "trooper" version which appears on the Paradox website. Here's a crappy picture: I think it would be best if I wrote a comparison of the Paradox with my other...- applehead

Vsonic GR07 MK2 - stunning new cable! | bio-cel tech IEM | now with review - see 2nd post
If anyone's interested in reading about impressions between the two versions, we had a local meet earlier where I was able to compare the first version of the GR07 (with more than 200 hours of burn-in) with a relatively new mk2. It was a quick comparison, maybe 10 minutes at most. Set-up was...- applehead

Fender IEM (Aurisonics) Impressions, Reviews & Discussions Thread
Quote: I used the tips without the foams inside. The ones with the foam wouldn't fit. For the ones without the foam, the XS (red) size ones wouldn't fit either because their stems were too short. They kept popping out on their own. Quote: Yep, it's almost the same size...- applehead

Fender IEM (Aurisonics) Impressions, Reviews & Discussions Thread
Is anyone using Sony hybrid tips with their ASG1.2? Ever since I switched to them I've been getting a much better seal, and along with it the good things that come with a better seal. The thing is, the tips' hole on top (nozzle?) are smaller than the tips that came with the ASG, so I'm wondering...- applehead

Fender IEM (Aurisonics) Impressions, Reviews & Discussions Thread
Quote: My impressions when comparing the ASG1.2 and TF10 with my customs (basically a UM Mage) are this exactly. I've had the ASGs for maybe 3 weeks now and I still don't know if they're worth keeping. I love the bass and the mids on some tracks, but the customs are just on another...- applehead

Fender IEM (Aurisonics) Impressions, Reviews & Discussions Thread
I just got my hands on some stock TF10s for a while, so I thought I'd do a quick comparison of the two. I thought the TF10 had more detail retrieval than the ASG, and a smoother soundsig with a more balanced presentation of instruments. However the ASG had superior midrange, making the TF10...- applehead
